Does this make sense ? sorry if i'm getting to be annoying

Though i am planning for a HB i still want to see a CNM for ultrasounds, blood work, other testing, and because i know my insurance will pay for it. And then just have my baby at home with another midwife. (Dh is comfortable if i do it this way).

Now i'm just wondering if my insurance would pay for Homebirth midwife and cnm. I'm getting so nervous about all this its almost making me rethink a HB. But i want this so bad i know i can't back out especially since dh is being fully supportive.

My HB MW ordered ultrasounds, testing that I chose to do and any blood work I chose to do. My insurance covered it whether it was a HM MW ordering it or a hospital MW ordering it.

My insurance didn't agree to cover my hb midwife until she was my *only* care provider (I started off with dual care). Other insurance companies may be different though. I *do* know that there is a place in Atlanta to get FREE ultrasounds. Also, i know people have gotten any bloodwork that they wanted done done at one of those Any Lab Test places. Other than bloodtype, i can't think of any bloodwork that a midwife would ask for unless they suspected something was wrong. Alot have their own monitors to check for iron levels if they need to. I don't know about the prenatal testing since i decided not to do any of that (and my midwives don't require it). Another thing to factor in: if you're having a homebirth, DON'T tell your CNM. Most of them will drop you from the practice if they know you're planning a homebirth (even if they agree with it). For some it's because they may be crunchy, but the OB they work under is not. Some just don't agree. Either way, not a good idea.

Thank you !!! i think everything will boil down to what insurance my dh gets and what MW i plan to use once we get down to Georgia. i havnt told my CNM here that i plan to do a HB. i did read on here that someone cnm dropped her when she found out she was having a HB.

My CNM (although she was wonderful) couldn't keep me once she found out we were having a homebirth. Luckily, by that time i was ready to quit dual care anyway, so it worked out well.

My CNM attends home births exclusively.

If a client wants an ultrasound or something else that she doesn't do personally, she refers them to her back-up OB, who's also very well respected.

We're lucky that we have the (good) options we do and that it's all fairly straightforward and simple.

Good luck mama!

from all the stuff I've read about insurance companies, best advice is to not make any assumptions because you never know for sure what they'll cover.

I almost didn't even call our CPM because only CNMs are allowed to attend births and I was worried about what the cost would be without insurance coverage. Turns out, my CPM can take insurance and my insurance is paying her the out-of-network rates -- that really surprises me.

You should still get a bill complete with CPT codes from your HB midwife and submit that bill to your insurance company. THEY MIGHT REIMBURSE SOMETHING! WHOOHOO!!
Probably if you are doing dual care they won't reimburse a dime for the HB midwife but it is worth a try!
