Has anyone ever thought of going to a local Bridal Show? They have everything from dentists, DJs and candy booths set up at these shows. They are typically one day events lasting 3-4 hours.
My though is.... as midwives and doulas, we need to educate mainstream women BEFORE they get pregnant. (I'm not trying to preach to the choir here...more like get the word out to the rest of the population.) At a bridal show, maybe they're really not thinking of pregnancy but if they had information to take home, maybe they'd read it, talk it over, have some contacts for the future, etc.
The booth could be set up for all kinds of things. Information on hypnobirthing, breastfeeding, massage therapy, midwives, doulas, homebirth, waterbirth, nutrition, CBE, etc etc.
One show in particular in the detroit area claims that over 1000 brides-to-be come through their show in 4 hours. That could be great exposure and a good way to communicate to the general public about natural birth. Maybe a good way to pick up clients? This show costs about $850 but between 5-6 people, it could be more cost effective, right?
Anyway......just thinking out loud here. Any thoughts?
