faking it

My folks watched my boys for us last week. Just before naptime, my 2yo had a rare meltdown. My mom let him flail around for a bit, but he wasn't working himself out of it so she picked him up to see if he wanted a cuddle. He finally calmed down enough to stay put in her lap, and she figured he was probably overtired.
He pulled her tank top down a little so there was a little cushioning for him to smoosh his face into, stuck his fingertip in his mouth, and went to sleep. Wonder what he was thinking of? It's been thirty years since she breastfed anyone, so she thought it was pretty funny. Of course, she also got a call last week from one of her Red Hat buddies wanting to set up a playdate with my 4yo son for her visiting grandson. She says she really wasn't expecting any more calls for playdates...

That's really cute!

When I started reading I was expecting it to be another "grandma tried to nurse the kid" thread after that article that was posted.

My eight and ten year old dd's will still cuddle into the exact nursing position on my lap, when they are really upset and need to be mothered and loved. Sure they are bigger, but they are petite girls, and still fit pretty well. My ten year old has actually asked to climb onto my lap, rather than have me sit beside her and hug her.

I chuckle, because in the position they are in, IF I still were nursing them, they would be in exactly the right spot. That position really sticks.

Also makes me sad because I know I never had that with my mom, since she never breastfed me at all. I didn't have the breastfeeding, and I didn't have the comfort of that close position.

That's kinda cute. I never thought about the concept of pillows until ds started sleeping on my boobs when he was about 2 months. Like once he had really good head and neck control. It's the perfect spot for a baby to rest their head! Round and warm and soft and comfy.

Both my DC's love breasts. They love to put their hands on the top part (the "swell") of my mom and MIL and aunties. They let them (my dc's) because they know it is for comfort. sometimes my 4.5 yo (who still nurses) just wants to hold one for a while.

I have a one sided mastectomy and a breast prosthesis that I wear out & about, but take if off often at home. My DSs like to poke and play with "fake neenee", one of them wears it as a hat

That brought back memories! My mother had a one sided mastectomy when I was 8. I distinctly remember being fascinated with the falsy! (And yes, they do make good hats!)

nak

My 4 month old has been sleeping with his head on my boobs at night since about 2 months too. He pops off and rests his cheek on the boob and just sleeps so peacefully.

What a sweet and adorable story. You really need to write that one down for prosperity sake. Maybe place it in his baby book if he has one?

Yes it is exactly like that! He looks so peaceful and comfy when he does it. DH always remarks that that is the best spot for a baby to sleep!

Both my girls did that when they were tiny babies too. : Thanks for reminding me. Even though my baby (21 m) is still nursing she doesn't do that anymore.

these stories are so cute!

at three weeks i woke up one morning and found my son with both arms stretched out holding my boob. he had milk all over his face and chest!! it looked like he'd either been wrestling an alligator or holding a teddy bear. lol.

i'll never forget that.

on another note...
my mom didn't breastfeed me either and sometimes I just can't stand to be touched or held by her. it's getting better but for a while there it would make my skin crawl.
lately i've been wondering if the lack of closeness caused that? she said she didn't know when she was raising us that children needed to be held skin to skin, or touched a lot. she's only in her mid 40's. I thought they knew that stuff then? she blames it on her and my father being "young."

Rowan sometimes sleeps on my breast as well--impressive, given my breasts aren't that big! Or she'll be content to sleep right next to the breast, as long as she has one chubby hand resting on it to make sure it can't escape! So very cute...
