Inexpensive Supplies?

Does anyone have suggestions for finding inexpensive supplies? Specifically I'm looking for sheets and towels and receiving blankets right now, but I'd also be interested in general recommendations.

I already checked out the local Salvation Army, but they didn't seem to have sheets or blankets, just clothing.

I found 2 sets of king sized sheets at Kohl's on clearance for $15 each. Maybe you could also try a store like BigLots or something similar. Try looking online also, maybe ebay or overstock.com

Can you just use the towels you already have? If not, or if you need more try JC Penny's home sale - I bought towels there for $3 or $4 each.

For receiving blankets I would definitely check out ebay, there is a surplus there.

is Salvation Army all that you have in your area? we also have Good Will and a ton of other thrift stores in this city. you might also be able to find cheap stuff at consignment shops, estate and garage sales, craigslist....

My mom (in prep for recovering from surgery) found a package of generic brand chux pads on sale at a drug store (Rite aid I think?). (Then she gave me all her extras ) If you want those, keep an eye out.

We made receiving blankets ourselves. I got some flannel material and just stitched up the edges.

For the bed I put a shower curtain that I got from dollar tree under the sheets. I had an extra shower curtain on the floor so that I wouldn't get the carpet wet from the birth tub to the bathroom.

My Mom bought all of the tarps that we needed at the dollar store, She also said there was blankets there to.

Go yard saling! I found a few sets of sheets, some towels, and about a bazillion recieving blankets at the community yard sale last year. It's coming up again this weekend and I'm excited to see what else I can find.

Walmart sells beding sepparate very cheap. I beleve you can get a full size flat for under $5.
But I would put out a notice on Free Cycle, or Craigs list. Also check out garage sales, and other thriftstores.

Definitely yard sales if you can.

I know at my Goodwill, baby stuff is $1 each. So $1 for each blanket. And often I find blankies at yard sales for a dime or a quarter.

i agree with what everyone else said (yard sales, flea markets, hand me down from friends or family, salvation army). I know walmart have receiving blanket real cheap. I bought a 6 pack for like $5.00.

Thanks everyone. I think this is a great excuse to hit some yard sales this weekend (dh doesn't want me to because I usually end up buying toys that we really don't need). I also checked out craigslist and will look at freecycle. I'm already planning on going to the dollar store for some shower curtain liners and I'll look and see what else they might have. Thanks for the ideas!

We got a lot of our supplies from a church rummage sale. Actually, my mom was working at it and scored everything.

I just went to the dollar store and got a few birth specific things:
-Shower curtains
-Paper towels (midwife requested these)
-Trash bags
-Container for Placenta
-AA batteries for camera backup

Some other stuff they had that might be useful but I didn't need:
-Box of plastic gloves
-Washcloths
-Spray bottles/peri-type bottles
-bendy straws

For my last birth I got a couple sets of sheets from Freecycle after posting a wanted ad. They had a couple small holes in them, but that didn't matter to me. I just didn't want to mess up our new ones since we had just bought the bed and bedding!

I think for some things, http://www.inhishands.com/ is a great place. You can buy a LOT of things you may like to have on hand individually instead of having to buy a whole box (ie latex gloves, or a peri bottle for $.60, some extra mesh panties or a couple of depends)

Other than a few things like my own package of chux and some witch hazel and a few other things, I am ordering through her.
She's even got any herbs you may want, and Rescue Remedy.

Oh yeah also you can get mesh type panties at Ross for $1! They are all I'm wearing these days
