Wearing a diva cup when not on period?

Probably sounds like a weird question. When my period comes, there's no warning signs that the flow is about to start. I just start gushing blood. Sorry TMI. I want to get completely away from wearing pads, so the day I'm expecting my period, can I wear my diva up even though the flow hasn't actually started?

I used to do the same with a tampon, so I don't see why not

But I'm very curious - why absolutely no pads?

My periods have been REALLY REALLY REALLY bad. Like....bleeding so bad I feel like I'm going to pass out, and bad bad cramping. So I'm really wanting to go without pads for at LEAST this cycle to see if it helps.

FWIW, I have more pain using the cup than using pads. Are you using cloth pads? I haven't heard anything about the cup making things better. Can you tell me more about that? I am curious.

I don't see what it would hurt to wear the cup the day you expect your period. I would think it would be a bad idea to do it any other time, but I guess that it's a given.

Hmm, the diva cup caused me to cramp my last couple periods before I conceived my baby.
If you don't have cloth pads, another alternative would be to fold up a washcloth the day you expect your period and use that as a makeshift pad, then you can just wash the cloth with your regular laundry.

I hope you find a solution - that doesn't sound fun!

I'm going to make my own pads...just havne't had any time to yet. So I'd really rather use the cup than the "always" pads that I have always used.

I often wear the cup when expecting my period. There's no risk that I'm aware of.

For me, it definitely reduced cramping compared to tampons. Now that I use only the cup and cloth pads, I've sometimes had cramps go away when I insert the cup. I think it has to do with the slight suction helping to get the flow out without the uterus having to contract so hard...??
