OK, I posted yesterday after what was a very emotional and horrid family meal, and today have come up with a game plan with DH after we agreed that there are two big issues.
one: We need boundaries with his family regarding our decisions
two: We have an issue in our parenting as I am against vax and he is not sure if he is or isn't and is resentful that I am pushing my agenda without giving him his voice as a father (I respect this and do believe that we have to make a joint decision as we are both DS's parents)
SO, we are expecting a long list of studies to be emailed to us by his doctor family and I have agreed to read them once I have formulated a list of my questions which I would like answered....
For now I have the following questions and would like others to offer me their concerns/ questions in an effort to make sure that DH and I do this as thoroughly as possible. While I would happily not vaccinate at all, and did not have as many questions as I do today, I have had to develop my arguments for "why" in a convincing "rational" way in order to convince DH that I might have a point.
1. I do not believe that the medical establishment is giving us the full picture regarding vax as at no point did anyone say that the DTP was dangerous to the public, only once they had the DTaP was it admitted that the DTP was less than perfect. This leads me to think that there could be information out there that is not being given to the public as they work on perfecting vax's that are in use today.
2. Smallpox is given as an example of the success of the vaccine campaigns. Why is it only this disease that was "eliminated" by vax? Surely other diseases enjoyed the same level of public implementation and yet they are still around?
3. It does not make sense to me to inject foreign pathogens into the bloodstream. And all the added chemicals that go with the pathogens. Anyone find a winning argument why this should not be done?
4. Anyone heard of people having more than one infectious disease at a time? Is it possible to contract measles, whooping cough and diphtheria simultaneously?
5. Levels of aluminium in vaccines is another concern of mine. I have read Dr Sears article in mothering and was sufficiently influenced to think that they don't know what the safe level of aluminium is.
6. I have decided to wait until DS is one year old before any vax is given, and then want to vax selectively and on my own schedule. DH feels that one year is a very arbitrary number and I am looking for reasons why this would be a good idea. So far I have been saying that DS will be bigger physically and better able to process a vax, and I have in the back of my mind that after one year SIDS is no longer an issue - babies just are stronger after one year. So far this has not been terribly convincing.
Fundamentally I believe that this (vax) is wrong, but as a responsible parent I do not feel I can just ask DH to go with me on this. It is only fair to provide solid reasons why not to, or why to wait. I do not want to alienate DH and I also will not vax....
So, any ideas would be very much appreciated.
TIA
