how to soothe itchy mosquito bites?

We've been enjoying lots of time outside, and have been bitten by so many mosquitoes! Is there a natural way to relieve the itching, or even to deter the mosquitoes themselves?? I know about not having water puddles around, and I know there are mosquito-catcher devices, but they seem very expensive. Anything else?

This is the best way I've found to relieve really itchy insect bites: Take a small rock - one with a rough, sort of gritty surface is best - and push it down on the bite while you twist it a little. Do it as hard as you can without making yourself bleed, and keep doing it until the bite stops itching. I find that gives pretty long-lasting relief, though it does rough up the skin a bit.

to repel mosquitoes I use a blend of essential oils- PM me for more information. For bites, I use plantain herb(grows in lawns everywhere) or with hazel mixed with a bit of lavender and german chamomile essential oils.

My grandmother used vinegar on us to relieve the itching. I do it at night sometimes and it works.

Thanks, mamas! I have been using witch hazel on the bites and it really helps. The kids find it soothing on their mosquito bites too.

making a paste out of baking soda can help too. and it works great for bee stings too.

Tea Tree Oil works great!

Calamine Lotion. Works especially good on black fly bites here in the good old northeast.
