Shaving underarms

Thread Starter
I stopped shaving when I was home after having my little one. Well, I stopped shaving my legs when if became dangerous to do so with my huge tummy!

Anyway, it just seems nice to not to feel like I have to shave. But, yesterday, I wore a tank top and my DH and sister were giving me a lot of heat about it.

For some reason, it seems like I am not sweating as much or that my underarms smell as much with all this hair. Is that my imagination? Or could it be the benefit of my thyroid medicine?

Are there any benefits to staying "all natural"? Anyone else not shave?

Thanks!

I've always had just a few underarm hairs. Maybe 20 under each arm. When I was a teen and started using deoderant, I had a lot of cystic boils under my arms that left a lot of scars. So, I think that might be one reason why I don't have many hairs. I shave them maybe once per year. My underarms rarely sweat.

When I was younger I fought BO constantly. Now that I haven't shaved under my arms in over 20 years, I rarely have any smell at all. I think the "unshaven = stinky" talk is just a myth. I love the way my underarms feel now - soft, smooth and silky.

As to the tank top issue - wear a short sleeved T-shirt instead. You will be just as cool and no one will see your underarms.

Good luck!

I don't shave, but on the rare instances I do, my sweat glands overproduce and I'm sure the BO is worse. I hardly notice any sweating sans shave. I don't know the complete biological explanation, but I'm sure it has something to do with why the dogs, cats, raccoons, and other varieties of mammalian creatures aren't sporting schick razors or wax strips.

I shave when I feel like it. More from imaginary social pressure, I think. Anyway, I haven't noticed a difference one way or the other with BO.

I haven't shaved my armpits in years. However, when they get extra long and unruly (and DH starts giving me "the look" ) I will trim them with his old beard trimmer.

And I always kick myself, because EVERY TIME, I get extra sweaty and stinky after. I actually *like* how I smell after not shaving awhile. I use tom's of maine deoderant - calendula or lavendar - and i don't smell. DH is honest about these things and for months after switching away from my secret extra strength i would quiz him daily about my potential stench. But, these last few days, eccch. Gross. I really need to stop worrying about people thinking I'm gross with my long hair. because, really i don't care.
