What slings?

Thread Starter
I'm feeling like indulging myself (anyone with me?) and I have to keep my credit card in a separate room from the computer. I just want to buy baby slings!

I have a Kangaroo Korner pouch which DS#2 loved (yea, Tanya!), but it will be pretty hot for a summer babe. A hand-me-down NoJo ring sling got almost no use - DH and I never got the right hang of it. We ended up using a Baby Bjorn more than anything else, but I'd like more snuggly options for this little one.

I'm planning on sewing a mei tai from a pattern I found on-line. Any Ellaroo fans out there? If money were no obstacle, I'd get a didymos wrap.

I have an ellaroo woven wrap, a mayawrap ring sling, a hotsling solarveil pouch (great for the AZ heat!!) and my eagerly awaited newest....a babyhawk. I like them all...all for different reasons...which justifies the large amount of money I've spent on them at least in my own head, right??

Hmmmm, good thread to keep my spirits up

I have an old reliable Hotsling - I got it before her biz exploded. I actually went to her house with fabric and she sewed it up in 10 min.! Charged me $10. How funny is that?

I also have 5 yds. of $1 fabric that I used last time to do different carries. It's actually quite nice. Haven't found any good fabric on the $1 table since.

I'm looking at a Solarveil something since it's already 100 degrees here but can't decide on a pouch or a wrap. I want a Moby but I know it'll be hot. Maybe it won't matter - it's not like I'm going to be hiking this summer.

I hear ya on the Didymos. So pretty. I just can't convince myself that it'll work better than the 5 yds. I already have. It would be a splurge so maybe

Then there's the ring slings. It's all I knew w/ds but things have come a long way since then. Ring slings are very usable imo but I'm partial to pouches and wraps. However, there are some mighty pretty ring slings out there. Again, just a splurge. I'm not in need of anything really.

I'd get a babyhawk. I'm looking forward to using mine very soon.

I just bought another Baby Hawk mei tai. Like hours ago (they're having a 15% off sale through today because it's their anniversary). I figured between the sale and me being overdue, I deserve it.

Besides that purchase which I shall eagerly await, we've got a regular BH mt, a hotsling knockoff (mom and I made it out of an old bedsheet), an adjustable Maya pouch (consignment sale score), and a pouch/ring sling thing a friend gave me a while ago.

elfinbaby ~ I've heard better things about the material Gypsymama (I think?) uses for wraps than the solarveil material... I always keep hearing that the solarveil is kinda scratchy.

Yay for this thread! I am getting so excited to babywear again. I've been thinking about giving the Mei Tei another try. The one I had last time didn't really work for me, but I think it was the design. The stash as it stands includes.....

I have a Wise Woman ring sling - its like an adjustable pouch - that DP loves.

I have an original shoulder Maya Wrap that I am trying to sell. I can't stand the shoulder.

I have another black ring sling that is okay for older babies.

I have an ellaroo rebozo that I adore and used a lot with DS.

A friend is making me a ringsling out of an awesome piece of vintage fabric I found at a garage sale. Its very thin and strong cotton - I'm hoping it will be my summer NB sling.

I have an Ergo and someone lent me their infant insert. Not sure we'll use it at all until babe is big enough to go on back, but maybe DP will.

My mama friends all pitched in and got me a beautiful super-long Didymos for my mama blessing. Its awesome, and I am determined to get this kid up and securely on my back before he's ergo size. I have romantic visions of attending births with a snoozing baby wrapped up on my back. We'll see It will be too hot for summer walks though, thats for sure.

I just got myself a new hotsling, which I am looking very forward
to using.

For DD I had a New Native (didn't like it but I think it was too small), a black Moby Wrap (loved it but not great for the summer), a ring sling which DH used a lot but I never felt comfie in, and an Ergo which we got a bit later.

This time I'm looking forward to my new Ellaroo Maija and my custom Li'l Peeper Keepers pouch sling. I hope I like the pouch sling. I'm so hesitant about it because I can't imagine a baby fitting in it, but I've only tried it on while pregnant. It is beautiful though.

I have:

a Moby Wrap
a SBP solarveil ring sling
a DIY Scandi-style MT
a DIY SSC
a DIY fleece pouch
a DIY cotton pouch
a DIY Beth's MT (kind of like a Frankenkozy)

I didn't really use any of them with DS, so I'm really looking forward to using them with this munchkin! All I had with DS was the pouch slings and a Bjorn-style carrier and I hated them.

I have a great pouch from Mama Kangaroo. It is made of some mesh-y material so I can take in in the shower or pool and it's great for when it' hot. I also have a long piece of fabric and a ring sling. I think that variety is great. I calculated that the amount I spent on slings is not even close to what I saved by not getting an expensive stroller. I still use them and DD is almost 4 and quite tall too. There are great for working out too. I do my squats with DD on my back. For the next baby, I will make or buy a few more.

Oh, I did not notice I was in a DDC, sorry...

I currently have a Peanut Shell pouch, but it's fleece...not working here anytime soon. I also have a Babyhawk mei tai - love it. I do own a WAHM wrap, but unfortunately, I'm not a fan. The fabric is too stretchy to get a good, snug fit. I got the chance to try on a Moby last week and really liked it. Not sure if I'll buy one or not? I have a Hotsling on order and due any day now (hopefully will get here before baby does). I was going to go with a Slingling, but I was too uncertain on sizing and didn't want to have to mess with exchanging/waiting, etc. And, finally, I have an OTSBH from years back that's barely been used which I'm planning to sell. I've learned that I'm not keen on padded (other than leg rails like on HS) or ring slings.

I'm shocked that I only seen one person on this thread with a moby! I think a stretchy wrap like a moby or an ultimate baby wrap is invaluble for the newborn snuggle up stage. I also think a fleece pouch is a must, even for the summer...they are breathable and stretchy and soft, the perfect little nest for a newborn. I will also be using my beco with the baby swaddled in a blanket...no need to buy an infant insert.

Mmmm. Can't wait to start babywearing again!!

My stash includes:

- A fleece pouch by Peekaboo Baby (My absolute favorite for a new baby)
- 2 twill pouches (different sizes) by Lucky Baby
- Hoppediz wrap (used from TBW)
- Medley wrap (cooped from lovinbundles... new for this babe, lighter than the Hopp)
- Babyhawk MT (used it ALL. THE. TIME. w/Nora... could even sling Nora & Audrey together, using a combo of the BH & wrap... until the belly got in the way!)

So, I think my stash is set... I'd like a Moby-type wrap to try out w/ a newborn, but so many mamas around here have said that it's just WAY too hot for summer that I'm going to try my new lighter wrap first. The local birthcenter sells Mobys, so if I change my mind I won't have to wait for shipping.

Oh, and just remembered... I have several yards of solarveil fabric that I bought right after Audrey was born that I've never gotten around to sewing up. Adding that to my to-do list right now!! That'll be perfect for a beachy ring sling for this summer!

I'm BIG into wraps this time.

I have a girasol
a vatanai
a moby wrap
a bb slen

then also, hmm a kozy mei tai
diy mei tai
2 solarveil ring slings
maya wrap

i've basically only been using the wraps but they are hot since its been 96 degrees here for days. Looking for a lighter wrap so I think I'm gonna get a calin bleu gauze wrap.
I've got...

* Storchenwiege wrap sling (this is just like a Didymos only I think they're a little softer)
* Bali Baby Breeze gauze wrap sling (good for summer, but not as soft as the Storch)
* KK Fleece Pouch (yea Tanya! Love this, but it's too hot in the summer)
* Home-made mai tai
* Ergo baby carrier (great for when DS got a little older

Just purchased a slinglings pouch sling (hopeing this will be good for summer because I decided I was never going to get around to making myself a lightweight summer pouch) I'll let you all know how I like it.

In general I prefer the wrap slings, but I really like pouches for going in/out of the car etc. Wraps are too much of a pain for quick on-and-offs.

sigh. so many wraps/slings/carriers, so little cash! (and even less sewing talent!)

i'm planning to use my sister's ellaroo wrap (just the long strip of fabric kind) for the newborn phase, then move to a Mei Tei (I think that's what she has). She is currently using my Maya ring sling w/ her 2 y.o. DD, and when babe gets old enough for that, I'll use it. She'll have had her LO2 by then and will want the others back.

I never got the hang of using the ring sling for younger babes, but love it for older babes and toddlers. When I brought it out one time to demonstrate for someone, my DS2 (way past the weight restriction by then) looked shocked and asked to be put in it! I couldn't believe he remembered.

I'm looking forward to doing a lot more baby wearing this time around. It will makes things so much easier!

I just bought my first wrap - A Bali Baby Stretch and can't wait to start learning to use it.
I bought myself a "mola wrap" from Maman Kangourou with a gift certificate I received for my baby shower. I had to practice a bunch of times with the stuffed tiger to figure out how to wrap it around myself. I think I'd still like to get a ring sling at some point, as well as a traditional carrier for DH.

Someone at my old job got me this Slingrider thing: http://www.toysrus.ca/product/index....entPage=family, but I've read a lot of bad things about it so I think I won't be using it...

I have a Moby and a KK cotton pouch and I think someone is making a Mei Tai for me.

My list:

Microfleece Peanut Shell (my only babywearer from DS1), which may be a bit hot for outside this summer, but I can probably wear it if we go somewhere at night or even in the house (AC)

Got a used Moby Wrap which will DEFINITELY be too hot for outside daytime use this summer, but I know being inside or out at a store I'll use it a lot

Cool black butterfly patterned Peanut Shell, cotton off of eBay (it's orange, black, blue and white patterns.... kinda odd for a boy baby and butterflies, but it's SO funky looking, I loved it! Got it used)

A Maya Wrap ring sling from my cousin who got it from a FreeCycle group (I NEVER find things like that on my group!), and it was too small for her.

I can't wait to try them all out! DS1 is still small enough to be worn in all of them (27 or 28 lbs), but won't let me wear him. Darnit!
