Rebecca,
Actually, those are all great ideas for future meetings of the Holistic Moms Network! Several of our members have talked about using the local babywearers group to try out different slings and carriers. If you want cloth diapering lessons, come on over to my house! I've got two in them right now!! I am slowly, but surely (fingers crossed) teaching my oldest to use the potty. She gets it but is not in any way consistent yet.
The next Holistic Moms Network meeting is Tuesday, September 2nd at 6:30. We are having a group discussion meeting (versus the guest speaker-type meeting on Vaccines last month) and we are all going to share our birth stories. I love hearing everyone's experiences with birth. Each birth is so unique and yet birth is so universal. It's also a great way to get midwife references and hear techniques of OB rebuttal (I hear you on that one!)
As for food shopping resources, I mainly use Trader Joe's and Safeway or Costco for pantry staples. For produce, I have a garden and go to the Irvington Farmers' Market. I tried out the Westside Organics service for a couple of months but found it to be disappointing in its lack of local produce. They consider "local" to be anything within 500 miles. Meat, milk and eggs are things that I would love to get in on a CSA for. I can't find one for meat or eggs around here at all. The milk from Organic Pastures sounds good but pretty pricey. Sigh. Makes me long for my past up in Sonoma County. You could get pretty much anything you needed locally up there.
ETA: Oops, I forgot -- I am currently a stay at home Mom. I used to work in the wine industry doing a bit of everything in wine education, marketing and special event planning. My husband is a woodworker and works for a custom cabinet shop in Palo Alto.
