Hi, I'm just looking to connect with some like-minded local moms.
I'm a mom of two, an almost 3 year old and a 9 months old. I'm a student at Cal state East Bay, biology major.
I'm in FUN mom's club.
Anybody?

Hi!

I'm new to Fremont. I have 4 children ages 7, 5, 4, and 10 months. I am in the Irvington area of Fremont. Not too familiar with where much is, yet.

You can find most anything in/near the Hub at Mowry and Fremont. I have yet to find a crunchy sort of grocery store in Fremont.

The Whole Paycheck in San Jose. I do a lot down there and it works well for me. There are a few random things that I have gotten in the habit of buying in a health food store up near Lake Merritt when I am up there.

Hi Mamas!
I'm new to MDC, not as new to Fremont!

My little boy is still in the NICU (born @ 28 wks on 4/17) but I'm around!

Good to see some local faces!

Oh gosh. I hope he is growing rapidly and will get to come home soon. My daughter is 5 weeks old so our kidlets will be similar in age.

I live in Fremont too.

Do any of you get together? Would love to meet some of you!

I am also in Fremont! I have a 2 1/2 year old and a six month old. I just joined FUN mothers club but have yet to participate in anything.

Out of frustration of not finding other like-minded moms in my area (especially SAHMs), I looked into starting a chapter of Holistic Moms Network. Myself and two other ladies head up the new San Jose Area Chapter and it is really an awesome group of women/families. I really want to get a good group from Fremont involved so that we can start a playgroup here as well. We meet the first Tuesday evening of the month. Check out our website at www.holisticmoms.org

I am always up for a meetup, barring any craziness on the kiddos part. We live off of Durham Rd. and Hwy 680

Hey! I have not been around here much lately. I see this thread has been active.

I use the Fremont Natural Foods off of Mowry sometimes when I'm in a pinch. I get my Braggs ACV there and a few other small things. I mostly use the Whole Foods in Campbell for bulk foods and other organics.

I would be interested in a Fremont Holistic Moms group.

Hey, I was wondering about that Fremont natural foods store. Is it any good?
We usually go to Health Unlimited in Castro Valley or Whole Foods in San Ramon. I feel guilty every time I drive far, though. Oh, and I sometimes have some luck at Raley's natural food section, when they are on clearance. I can find the whole Tofurky for 5 dollars...love it!!

Wouldn't it be cool, if the Fremont AP moms' or holistic moms' group could offer free community classes on babywearing, cloth diapering, how to argue well with your OB so you can get your dream birth, or how to find the best midwife, etc?? I got dips on babywearing.

So what do you all do, out of curiousity? I'm a student at CSU east bay and my husband is chiropractic student.

Rebecca,

Actually, those are all great ideas for future meetings of the Holistic Moms Network! Several of our members have talked about using the local babywearers group to try out different slings and carriers. If you want cloth diapering lessons, come on over to my house! I've got two in them right now!! I am slowly, but surely (fingers crossed) teaching my oldest to use the potty. She gets it but is not in any way consistent yet.

The next Holistic Moms Network meeting is Tuesday, September 2nd at 6:30. We are having a group discussion meeting (versus the guest speaker-type meeting on Vaccines last month) and we are all going to share our birth stories. I love hearing everyone's experiences with birth. Each birth is so unique and yet birth is so universal. It's also a great way to get midwife references and hear techniques of OB rebuttal (I hear you on that one!)

As for food shopping resources, I mainly use Trader Joe's and Safeway or Costco for pantry staples. For produce, I have a garden and go to the Irvington Farmers' Market. I tried out the Westside Organics service for a couple of months but found it to be disappointing in its lack of local produce. They consider "local" to be anything within 500 miles. Meat, milk and eggs are things that I would love to get in on a CSA for. I can't find one for meat or eggs around here at all. The milk from Organic Pastures sounds good but pretty pricey. Sigh. Makes me long for my past up in Sonoma County. You could get pretty much anything you needed locally up there.

ETA: Oops, I forgot -- I am currently a stay at home Mom. I used to work in the wine industry doing a bit of everything in wine education, marketing and special event planning. My husband is a woodworker and works for a custom cabinet shop in Palo Alto.

We get most of our produce from farmer's market in Union City at Smith street. They are not as fancy as Pleasanton one that we used to go to, but they got some interesting indian veggies that we like to make curry with.

We used to have Full Belly Farm CSA, but my husband did not like to too much, since you couldn't pick out your veggies in your box, but they pick them out for you. But I loved it, because I like surprises and trying out exotic stuff. We are sticking with farmer's market for now.

Oh and for the milk, i think I saw a thread of organic milk co-op starting up in east bay. Maybe someday I can have my own mommy cow and we can have her milk after baby cow is done drinking, with her permission, of course, telepathically..lol but that's in the dreamland......

Holistic Moms Network is a non-profit organization that is based on member support. We invite any interested parents to check us out for one meeting before deciding whether or not they would like to join. The annual membership fee is $45 and well worth it. We meet the first Tuesday of every month at Rozenhart Family Chiropractic at 6:30. Send me a PM with your email address and I'll put you on our email list for information and upcoming meeting topics. We started this chapter of HMN only four months ago and already have had over 50 moms/dads attend our meetings! There has definitely been a need for this type of community in the south bay. Hope to see you next week!

Oh man this sounds awesome! I'm also near Durham, in the neighborhood that meets up at Fremont Blvd. I'm not going to be in town next week or I would come to the meeting. I look forward to showing up at the October one.

I'm a stay at home mom now with my three month old. I was a high school English teacher and I intend to homeschool. My husband is a software engineer.

Rightkindofme, pm me your email address so that I can put you on the HMN mailing list. We are probably going to be changing our meeting location in October (the Library is too pricey for our budget) and I want to make sure that you know where to go.

I, too, was an English major and started my credentialing program before I realized that it wasn't for me at the time. Now I am kind of wishing that I had continued so that I could have a kid-friendly career when the time comes to go back to work. I've been toying with the idea of homeschooling my oldest daughter because she is a January babe and will have to wait until she's nearly 6 years old to start kindergarten. I'd love to hear your thoughts as to how and why you are planning to homeschool your little one (being a teacher in the school system). Many of the HMN members homeschool their kids and they have been really informative as to the actual workings of it. For example, I didn't know that homeschool can actually be classified as a charter school and can be paid for by our tax funds. Right on! One less financial worry as that time approaches.
