Polypropylene rugs? Off-gassing?

( X posted in mindful home management...grn living) Wow, do they ever make some handsome polypropylene rugs these days! I love my wool rug, but I want something lighter... I tried sisal, jute, the cats shredded them - and they are also impossible to spot clean.. Tough with all the dumped food, drinks etc. I don't know if a more expensive sisal would do better... but I can't believe how nice some of the new synthetic rugs look, ie. pottery barn/ dash & albert etc.

I am aware that I would never get a new nylon/ or traditional synthetic carpet due to the hideous amounts of off-gassing- ( as anyone knows who has ever smelled new carpet, eech..) but I have heard polypropylene is inert.. Can anyone back this up?? Plus, many are recyclable- made for indoor/outdoor use.

I want something easy to clean, and heavily durable.. Thanks everyone!!

I would like to know this, too. They seem like such a good option for the kitchen.
