When my dd was born 8 weeks ago I was running a fever. Due to the fever I was advised by my midwife to induce. To induce I had to go to the hospital where my midwife was no longer considered to be my childs care provider, the pediatrician on call was instead. After the birth I was informed that my baby had to be put on antibiotics because of my fever. I agreed as I was a little scared something may be wrong, as that is what I was told. I am sure that I read something at one point about antibiotics affecting childrens teeth. Is this in my imagination or did someone else hear this too? Did you hear anyother side effects of antibiotics I should be looking out for?

if a pregnant woman takes antibiotics the baby's teeth can be deformed, but i don't think teeth that are already formed (as in your situation) will be affected. i'd be more concerned about thrush.

Oliviasmom...
...I hope that you're breastfeeding. If so, take some of the following probiotic powder on your moistened finger and push it gently into your suckling baby's mouth:

I culture a yogurt with the adult mix for my family for everyone's intestinal health.
It's not just antibiotic medicines, it's the antibiotics that remain in the meats we eat.

Thanx to both of you for your replies. I forgot to mention that I am indead breastfeeding and have been taking acidophalus & bifidus since my release from hospital (4 days postpartum). I am a vegetarian so I needn't worry about antibiotics from meat but, again, thank you for your ideas and comments.

marianne, that is great that you were smart enough to get some probiotics to ward off thrush! i know so many moms that gave up nursing because of thrush that was a result of antibiotics during labor. yay for you!

Yes, they present studies to *prove* their points, but there are also many, many studies showing that vegetarian diets are both sufficient and healthful.
