going no poo help please

Well. I'm a Pantene user. After rediscovering this forum, I realize, that's bad. I'm very interested in going no-poo, but i'd like to take it in small baby steps, to make the transition as easy as possible.

That said, what's my first step? Would it be a good idea to go to a "cheap" shampoo and conditioner without the cones? Or natural/organic ones? I want to do this in eensy teensy baby steps, rather than straight to bs/acv. I've done that before, and it just screws my hair up completely.

So, what do I do? This am, I just washed with water and a tsp of acv in a big cup of shower water, so I could comb it. It's feeling like there's a residue, and looks a bit greasy at the roots, fly-away at the ends.

Help?

Either my water or my family's hair just hates ACV. We all tried and it leaves us greasy and fly away (btw- DH, DD, and I all have blonde, slightly wavy hair)...
When I tried the first few times, bs/acv, my hair was AWFUL. So I just used bs and it was fabulously soft and fluffy (had been limp for years). Now, I wash with a TBSP of bs in a big cup of water once or twice a week and just rinse with water in between. I use a teeny bit of coconut oil for conditioner, if it's hard to comb or feeling too dry. DD and Dh do similar, but no cocnut oil for DD and Dh has to wash more often and likes ACV maybe twice a month.

I just got my hair cut and the stylist kept going on and on about how healthy it is... so, no damage from not using the vinegar

.... So, maybe you just don't need ACV?

Interesting. Thanks for the tip, I may have to go try that. I really want this to work. Did you start the bs 1-2x a week from the start, or did you transition to that?

I think it was on here, on another no poo thread that I read that there are lots of different ways to no poo...For me it doesn't involve any BS/ACV...just only washing twice a week and using conditioner every day in between -- for now. I'm eagerly awaiting my Oyin Naturals poo bar and styling products.

Now, that being said, my hair is really short, so I don't really have to worry much about the length of my hair being smooth. But for me it's less about the poo/no poo and more about the natural styling stuff I use after I'm out of the shower. Again, though, this is for my hair now that it's short. When it's long I also only wash a couple times a week, condition every day, and then the styling part is mostly about some kind of shine-producing something like coconut oil, or back in the day some Aveda humectant pomade.

The thing that I keep trying to get through my head is that no poo is a process. You experiment to find what works best for your hair. Some people may do great with BS/ACV. Some people may us conditioner only washes. Some people may use egg or honey or any number of other additives to their routine. Some people be able to get by with water only for several days or several weeks. You just have to keep telling yourself that once you've stopped poo'ing (hee hee) you are free. And yoiu can pretty much do whatever routine works best for you. But it's a process to find what that routine is.

I started with every other day- because I had been shampooing every day. As soon as I stopped the acv, I could go 3 days. As long as I use water everyday, I can go 8 days without washing and being a total greaseball.

But, yeah, you just have to play around. Ponytails are your friend
