Uterine infection and consuming placenta

Not sure where to post this ...

One of the reasons they suspect DD's distress (and a reason for the C/S) is that my uterus had an infection. My white blood cell count was very high, and they sent the placenta to pathology to confirm an infection. It came back positive, but I can't remember the exact name they had for it. I don't quite get how testing the placenta tells that my uterus was infected, but I guess it does since that's what they tested.

So I've saved my placenta in the freezer (after having it in a refrigerator at the hospital for 10 days) and I'm wondering if it's okay to consume if I were to decide to have it encapsulated? After delivery I was on abx for 4 days, and DD for 7 days.

p.s. - I was GBS+ if that has anything to do with anything

If you had a uterine infection, what sort was it? Did they prescribe you antibiotics? Or were you just colonated with GBS?

Honestly, if you had an infection that you took antibiotics for that was in your placenta, I wouldn't EAT your placenta and risk getting another infection.

No, I would not eat an infected placenta under any circumstances.

I don't recall the exact name (it was 2 words though, that I remember). Yes, I was on abx for 4 days.

Alrighty, so planting it under a rose bush is sounding like a great option at this point!

Oh Karen, I haven't read your birth story yet, I haven't been around much - your siggy makes me so sad Are you okay? Were you wanting to consume placenta to help with depression? Just want to offer some

OK, hugs! Hope your rosebush grows nice a pretty.

Make sure you get plenty of sun! That can help with the depression!

Take care.

Aw, and your post made me tear up!! Thanks for your caring words. I think I am okay. I was wanting the option of placenta just in case, or for menopause. Considering DD's birth and how drastly different it was from what I'd planned, I'm doing pretty well compared to how I felt after DS's birth. At least I feel there were actual reasons this time, and I had plenty of time to try to labor on my own. But I will always mourn the loss of my chance to give birth normally, and have those precious moments. I was hoping this birth would bring me some healing but instead it's more of the same. I know I have some grieving to do, and time will help with that. Thanks again.

nak

was it chorio amnioitis? i had that with my first son, it was described to me as an infection in the amniotic fluid, though, not the placenta. i'm not sure what the difference is...

either way, i would say that the rose bush idea sounds safer, but you could ask the dr for the name of the infection then research if freezing kills it. you could also send a piece of it (now that it's been frozen) back to the lab for retest to confirm if freezing killed it.

but i still vote rose bush

That sounds vaguely familiar, but I'm not sure. Thanks for the suggestions, but I think the rose is winning.
