Gift ideas for my 2YO boy?

My ds' 2-year birthday is coming up soon and I am also starting to making plans for Christmas too. I need some ideas for age-appropriate toys/gifts that I can make. He already has:

-play kitchen and felt food (I made last Christmas)
-musical toys: drum, piano, maracas, recorder
-train table and trains (hand-me-down from cousins)
-lots of knitted balls
-tons of books
-wooden puzzles (also hand-me-downs)
-several sets of wooden blocks
-homemade playdough, crayons, & paints

He already has so much! One idea I have is to fix up an old school desk and paint it fun colors. I though I could stock it with fun art supplies, stickers, and such. But I don't know if this is age appropriate? To be honest I am constantly amazed by what my toddler can do, so I don't want to underestimate (or overestimate) his abilities and what toys constitute "fun". He is also really into cars and trains right now, but I don't want to buy him more metal/plastic toys. I also thought of making him a teepee or play house to play in...something that could go in the yard or inside (since it's only nice here for like 4 months of the year). Ideas and suggestions?

My DS is going to be 2 also!

Some ideas for his birthday we have:
Sandbox
Wooden wagon
Backyard swing

I think the school desk idea is great. We're trying to find an old lift-top desk for DS. Having lots of art supplies on hand so they can experiment it great.

HTH.

My DD is 2.5 and she loves to sit at her desk and color and play with stickers. This spring she got a couple of huge sticker books that she loves to play with! they were pretty spendy- but she absolutely loves them!

Dh and I are planning to build him one next weekend. We have to finish the patio first. I found a simple plan online and we bought the lumber for it last weekend. We have been working on the yard all spring. Our back yard was nightmare when we bought the house last fall - the former owners filled the entire yard with woodchips! There was no grass or plants or anything!

How about playmats. There were a couple of people posted pictures around Christmas, I seem to remember one was a roadway.

I've made mini cloth shopping bags which have been a hit with my 2 (4 and 18 months)

DS is really into hats at the moment, by 2 I imagine he would like some simple dress up items. DD loves her ears http://sewing.about.com/od/hallowee1...tmouseears.htm

Crayon rolls are great. I made them for my kiddo and his cousin (4). Here's the tute I used.

I found crayon rolls to be kinda useless and boring for my 2 yr. old. The crayons never get back in the roll.

I would say a wheely bug or some type of scoot. Too fun!

I thought I responded to this earlier today...

Playsilks! My DD loves silks and plays with them every day.

Pocket scarf.

When my nephew was two I made him a scarf with "pockets" at either end. You just make the scarf 6 inches longer on each end than you normally would and fold the end up and stitch up the sides. I had intended it for hand warming, but he thought the pockets themselves were the best thing ever and carried his matchbox cars and his trains around in them.

What a great idea! My ds always has a car in his hand. I just recently showed him that his pants have pockets and that pockets are perfect for stowing rocks.

Thanks for all the other ideas ladies! You got my creative juices flowing.
