Homebirth Issues

I am currently 13 weeks pg with #8. I had my first four in the hospital, the fourth being an unneceserean. My fifth and sixth were wonderful homebirths and my seventh was planned to be a homebirth as well. Unfortunately I ended up in the hospital with a placental abruption and emergency csection. That was in August of last year.

Now I really want to have another homebirth. I have NO desire to try a VBAC at the hospital as I know I will be pressured into a csection even if I try to go with the hospital midwives.

I'm about 90% sure I can do the HBA2C, however everyone around me, except SO, is sure I'll "rupture and bleed out on my living room floor in front of my kids"...my moms words.

So if you add up all my "risks" do you think a homebirth is still my best option?

I'm a grand multip
I have had two csections
My last csection will have only been 16 months before this delivery

WWYD? Do you think a homebirth is still safe for me? My MW is fine with it, all she wants is the hospital report from the CS, for me to have an u/s so we know where the placenta is, and most of all, that I eat very healthy and take really good care of myslef during this pg.

I would go for it. If your MW is comfortable, especially after reading the reports, I certainly would. Any of these thoughts, concerns and questions, I'd be talking to the MW with your DP around. I hope you are able to make the right decision for you.

One thing that would be part of my decision is if I planned more kids after this one. The risks of pregnancies in general after c-sections go up with the more c-sections you have. The surgeries get more difficult too.

I'd trust your midwife. The chance of your uterus rupturing is pretty slim. Do whatever feels right to you.

I don't plan anymore children after this one, actually I think I will be getting permanent BC.

The only thing that would concern me is the previous c/s being so close. I have a friend who had c/s close in proximity to subsequent pg's and it wasn't a good thing for her.

I wouldn't put all my faith in a MW...you have to go with how you feel. Do you feel at peace?

I have had 2 csections. My HBA2C will be 22 months apart. I tried a vbac with my son, at a hospital, with supportive doctors, at only 12 months apart, and they had NO issues with that, and they were mainstream. I had a csection in Sept 05, Oct 06, and will vbac in August 08. You have a proven vbac success rate. I would not hesitate for a minute to do it again. Good luck momma!!

I would think if the midwife is comfortable with it then she considers you low risk and you're probably fine if you feel comfortable with it. You might look at the statistics on chances of having another placental abruption, and whether you're any more likely to have another because your previous c/s was so recent, and then decide whether you feel comfortable with the risk.

Why do you think that the hopsital midwives will be pressuring you into a VBAC? Have you talked to the hospital midwives about this? I would explore this further, I just know that we have awesome hopsital midwives in my area that have an amazing VBAC rate and truly believe in it.
