I don't know what its called...

I remember making these neat things in grade school art class. There was a piece of paper with a colorful random design on it, then covered with something black. In the end, you had a black sheet of paper. Then you scratched your design in, and the colors underneath made it a neat picture. Help, what is it called and how do you make it?

I think it's called scratch art. I've used the oil pastel crayons for this too, but I think paint is faster. Here's a link:

It is scratch art. I was a elm. art teacher fora few years and the kids always loved it. use posterboard. Color HEAVILY on the dull white side with brightly colored crayons. Dont leave any white spots. Then paint with one or two coats of black tempra paint. Once dry you can use all sorts of stuff to scratch a picture in. HAVE FUN.
