We waited a couple of weeks. I only wash my newborns like 2x a week after that, or when they smell like cheese.

I agree with waiting a while as well. With all my babies it's been a while. IMHO the bacteria that babies are exposed to when they enter the world naturally at home are meant to populate the gut and the skin and are a large part of the immune system. I try not to deviate much from what natural selection has created in the human birth process if I can at all help it.

My first two came out and did poop nearly right after birth, but we just wiped the bum area off after that. And, my third was a water birth. Though he was born in the caul and not technically bathed for a while (though he was in water LOL).

about two weeks. none of my children were bathed for the first two weeks. i kept everything off of their skin, except a diaper. stayed underneath the comforter with me the entire time.

Well, mine was pretty clean after being born in the water - haha. I bathe my kids probably after a week to ten days, I'd say. And then only about once a week, even for my toddlers.

You know, during my pg I read in a Parenting magazine in the waiting room at Georgetown hospital that you should only bathe kids about once a week. I was amazed - that advice coming from an MD in Parenting!

my pedi said the same thing- bathe only 1-2x a week and then only with water and, if you need it, a tiny bit of mild soap.
