It's a girl!

We had our baby girl Thursday 6/5 @ 2:28pm. She was 6lbs 4oz & 18" long.

It was the scariest and one of the happiest days of our lives.

Wednesday 6/4 I had a bio physical profile....I had complications during my last 2 pregnancies so even though I had an uneventful complication free pregnancy, my new ob/mw office monitored me closely....I hated every second of it but in the end I think it saved my dd's life.
So during the bpp the tech asked me if my water had broken or if I had been leaking...I said no. She told me my water was low...measuring 2 (<5 is considered low). I saw the midwife after, she called the ob in, my doula was there and we all talked. I eventually agreed to go home, hydrate and we'd re-evaluate again in the morning.

So morning comes and I went to the hospital like we agreed. They monitored me and gave me IV fluids and we talked induction. I knew an induction would likely end in another c-section so I asked for another bio physical to see where we stood on the fluid levels...then re-evaluate (I hoped my fluid would be up and I'd go home). So we did the bpp...I remember asking the tech if she measured the fluid yet and she said...hon there is no fluid here to check..there's nothing. So we get back to the room...I knew I wouldn't be going home.

My ob came in shortly after and handed me the tech's report...bpp score was 0 out of 8...I only remember words like fetal compromise, gravely low fluid etc etc. I fell apart and begged him to get my baby out NOW. I had eaten only an hour earlier and he said the anesthesiologist would want to wait a few hours...I said NO WAY...ASAP please...he agreed...he'd be ready to do it in 2 hours. So we waited...still monitored...they came in and prepped me for surgery...then all of the sudden my lower back hurt so badly...I had to stop laying on my back so I rolled over to my left side...the nurse came in to adjust the fetal heart rate monitor and couldn't find the baby...she screamed for help and about 3 more nurses came in, she opened gloves so she could check me...but never did...she asked another nurse to try to find baby...she did..baby's heart rate was 87.
Everyone yelled....call the ob...call the anesthesiologist...we're going now now now. I was just in shock...I remember looking at my dh and he looking at me...what just happened?!?! So we get in the OR and my ob is telling everyone to prep me for general...he's holding my baby belly up and to the left. They got a spinal in quickly...my dh knows the anesthesiologist and out in the hall he promised dh he would get the spinal in fast and we wouldn't have a general. So dh came and my doula videotaped it. I heard the ob say prolapsed....nuchal something times 2 (cord wrapped around her neck twice) and last but not least TWO TRUE KNOTS in her cord. He showed me the cord and I just gasped. She came out screaming, I only remember asking over and over if she was okay.
My pedi was there and assured me she was fine...apgars were 9 and 9. What a relief...I couldn't even cry I was in such shock. She is small...only 6lbs 4oz 18inches at 39.5 weeks. My other daughter was 7lb9oz at 38 weeks and my ds was 9lb7oz at 40 weeks. They told me she was probably small b/c of the knots but she should grow as she was programmed to from now on.
Nursing is going great....I was nervous about it b/c she's so small plus she's tired b/c we're fighting jaundice. But we're home, doing well and repressing all of the what ifs and just counting our blessings. I am so relieved that this is our last pregnancy because I don't think I could do it again after everything we went through.

We have a beautiful dd and our family is now complete...I hope it's smooth sailing from here on

Our miracle!

so happy for you that things went okay and she is safe in your arms! that is a wild story.

fwiw, ds #2 was born with nuchal cord x6 but more importantly, two true knots as well. vaginal birth, no real warning of any trouble other than some decels to 90ish during pushing (but his heartrate would pop right back up again).

i was 40w4 days and he was only 6lbs8oz and 19". just a wee lil monkey, same kind of thing, we figured so tiny because of the knots (none of my babies have been big, but he had just no fat on him at all).

he grew like CRAZY. i don't remember specifics, but he gained over 4lbs in his first 4 weeks and i know he had TRIPLED HIS BIRTHWEIGHT BY 6 MONTHS. Rockin'. He was so chubby.

I was very nervous about his development etc due to the cording, although his O2 sats were perfect. He is almost 4 now and has shown no signs of any problems (I was assured right after his birth that he would be fine, but you know). He is such a miracle and I am so glad God kept him safe when I had no idea he was in such trouble.

Be gentle with yourself and enjoy your precious girl!
