Black/blue cohosh and mint

My doula's asked me to start a homeopathic regiment of blue and black cohosh next week, which is supposed to help prevent going over term. I'm to take one granule once day, and alternate the two; I'm also supposed to avoid anything with mint (like toothpaste) because it's supposedly negates the effect of black/blue cohosh. Has anyone heard about this?

Yep, it is a natural induction technique. I wouldn't do it until 42 weeks, but that's just me.

mint...aw, nuts. maybe that's why they're not working for me better get some new toothpaste!

they will work if your body is ready, they won't do anything if it's not. can't hurt, really. should get your cervix nice and agreeable.

i tried them with my last pregnancy to no avail, and i have been trying just the caullophylum this time - obviously i am still pg. i have a lower dose here at home though which would make a bit of a difference.

yes, with homeopathics you want to avoid any strong smelling herbs such as mint, tea tree, rosemary etc. They are thought to decrease the effect of the remedies. Also coffee should be avoided. And hopefully they told you to disoense the granule into the lid of the remedy, a piece of paper or a cup and not into your hand before going into your mouth. You want to dose directly into your mouth. We love homeopathy here in my house. It has been a successful healing modality for many things! It has helped tremendously with my PUPPS rash, like almost totally gone! So if ya know anyone who gets this, tell them to take Apis 30C a few times a day. I can't believe the results!
*It's funny though, I haven't even considered the caulophylum etc for this pregnancy! I am just letting things unfold this time without doing much but drinking tea. I hope it works for you though! Good luck!

I have been taking blue and black for a week...4 granules of each 3 times a day. I didn't know about the coffee though.....and why shouldn't you touch them? My bottles don't have a dispensing lid.

Apparently the oils on your hands can create some kind of chemical reaction in the granules, which is why you're supposed to put the granules directly into your mouth without touching them. I don't have a dispensing lid either (the bottles are empty pill bottles I was using to keep beads), so I'm just going to gently dose one into the lid and put try to get it underneath my tongue somehow!

I always did black and blue tinctures. Helped with DS!

Try not to touch them, anyways, that's the idea. You could drop them onto a spoon.

I always thought the tincture was to be used for best effect. There is a book called the Wise-Woman Herbal for the Child Bearing Year by Susan Weed. It's informative and your library may have it.

Yeah... true to that. I don't touch those with a 20 foot pole unless it's an emergency.
