out of curiousity - how soon after 2nd baby drops should I expect labor?

Hi,

I woke up this morning to a considerably different shape, it looks like squirt has dropped! I know that with my dd that labor was still a few weeks off after she dropped. Yet all the books make such a point to say that in subsequent pregnancies it doesn't happen until labor day. I am 38 weeks tomorrow and wouldn't mind if baby hung out a little longer!

So, what has been your experience?

Thanks!

Jacqueline

Baby dropped on Mothers Day. I'm not due until the 25th.

I dropped at 38 weeks and will be 40 tomorrow. I guess it doesn't mean much.

yeah....just echoing here - ds2, dd and this baby all 'dropped' - that is, started to engage and descend - far before labor began. As in, weeks. DD was at -1 for a WEEK.

So you might just get those extra days you're hoping for

Just another "thing" I don't believe in...

THEY say nesting, loose stools, loss of appetite, and dropping can signify impending labor...

Not true for me!

I remember dropping with my second, and there's no doubt I dropped again this time... My belly is sooo low...Baby's head is definitely engaged, but its been like this for a while!

Baby dropped on friday (38weeks) and I really think he'll stay in there at least another 2-3 weeks. I'm not having any other signs of labor and fully expecting to go overdue again.

With my first I dropped at 27 weeks (preterm labor) with my second I didn't drop until labor started (then they worried the cord would prolapse because it was floating below his head).

It varies so much from lady to lady!

somewhere between 5 minutes and 2 months.

After the first baby, consecutive babies can drop and then come up again. Usually if it's a permanent drop, labor is eminent and follows quickly.
