Oooh, I'm close to beginning it! I'm going to go low dose at 36 weeks & then up to 500 mg orally at 37. At some point start it vaginally.

from the june ddc, but just wanted to add my personal experience: with #1 and #2, never took any. with #3, took it from 37 weeks orally, 1000 mg daily. then did a few vaginal applications after term.

with the first two i only effaced a bit prior to actual labor, with dd i was 80% effaced and several cm, and very stretchy. this time, i have been lax in my epo-taking and am paying for it with a lovely rigid cervix...i am a bit dilated and 50% effaced...but i know with dd it was much more soft.

I bought some yesterday when I was buying birth supplies, though I still have a couple of weeks left before I am to 36. I just wanted to have it on hand.

I took a break from the EPO b/c of my "continuous contraction" experience the other night but I am thinking about resuming. However, if I am already 2/90% and soft will it do anything more?

I'm 36 weeks today, and I think I'm going to start the EPO. I got lazy and never did it with my last baby. I was 3-4 cm before labor hit, but I had a really long labor. I'm hoping for a shorter labor this time.

bumping this up because I saw another EPO thread recently started. I broke down and bought a bottle yesterday. 500 mg a serving, but I notice that that's for 3 capsules. Dang. (I hate swallowing stuff. It's a challenge for me.) I wonder if I missed one that was just one capsule=500 mgs.?

They also had 1000mg, but I figured if I found out I needed that much I could double the dose of the 500mg. Maybe I should go back and look if the 1000mg bottle is 2 capsules of 500mg each! (Fewer things to swallow.)

I remember another post with some descriptions about the EPO mess if you take it vaginally. Is it sort of like the splooge running out after sex? I didn't get my prostaglandin deposit from my husband this morning....Guess we'll rain check it tonight or something.

It runs out of you when you roll around and get up, so wear a pantyliner and you'll be fine.

I have taken it from 28 wks. Works great, but won't start labor. But great for softening things up and getting everything ready.
