I lost a filling in one of my upper rear molars. So far it's only slightly painful, I'm not noticing sensitivity to heat or cold. I am not sure how much of the filling is gone or when I lost it. I only noticed a few days ago that I could see a dark hole/spot in the tooth, and I had to think a moment if I still had any old amalgam fillings. I remembered that I didn't, my last dentist fixed me up with a tooth colored composite. So now you can see the metal from the old filling. I can't afford to go to a dentist immediately. What can I do? I know about cloves, but I'm not in much pain at all, and a friend told me to not waste time with the temporary filling stuff you can get at the drugstore. Do I just keep my fingers crossed and hope I get to the dentist before this becomes an issue? The dentist could easily be a month out from now......

Can it be done over a cavity that has been drilled out? As I mentioned, I still have some metal filling in this tooth that had been covered with a composite filling. Would the existing amalgam that is there prevent remineralization of that part? I would love to get the rest of the amalgam out, but it seems to me that the part of the tooth that it is still covering would not be able to remineralize?
