Ollie is 20 days old today...what a journey. We have come full circle and are finally home. Ollie has just a tad bit of bruising left-but what a turn around...

I suck at posting pics on here-but the link to my blog in my siggy has current pics.

I'm so happy to be home, and home here at mdc...omg we have so so many beautiful May and June babies...wow...

Yay! DDC lurker (from November)...in training to be a Respiratory Therapist, so your story caught me right away. I've been watching and praying, and I'm so happy you can begin your "real" life now! Good luck little Ollie!

Thank you! The respiratory people are what made the difference in life and death for this guy. Had there not been some bad arse folks at the hospital we transferred to, idk if this kid would have ever gasped for air. Even the deep deep suction by the paramedics couldn't get it....

I wanted to add on another note, something only MDC moms could truly appreciate...

I looked at my DH today, and told him that after all this baby had been through I just didn't have the heart to circ him. Something I had planned on fighting with dh on this whole pregnancy. He has been on the fence about it, but more toward the do it side...all three of our others are circ'd as is he. He just laughed and said that he understands now. He has seen our baby pull up his heel and hide it or cry when you touch his foot, even when I touch it, because of all the needle pokes, every 3 hours our entire stay at the hospital. It's called an aversion...Ollie has foot aversion-anything on or near or approaching the foot makes him afraid. My dh said "I don't want to give him penis aversion" rofl. That works for me! I not only rejoice in bringing my son home as normal as can be-but intact and staying that way (without the huge parental argument)! Happy happy day-my crunchie friends, happy happy day!

Yeah! I am pretty amazed at this one myself. He went straight from feeding tube to boob. Tube to boob we kept calling it. If it weren't for that nurse Carrie, there's no way I would have done that. He has never had formula in his body, and the only bottle that has touched his mouth has been mixed with a tad of breastmilk and used for one or two swallows to get meds down, without using a more invasive method (ie: dropper full forcing down throat). I had to camp in my car for four days to be able to nurse him on demand-that was pure hell-and in hindsight I am doubting my sanity lol. But to look down and have him pull off and look up at me with milk running down his cheek and chin...at least I'm blissfully insane :P

Carrie is actually the teacher of the regional "nurse nursing program"...they teach nurses to do what she did for me, and to be more pro breastfeeding. She teaches in conferences of nurses, hundreds at a time. She got my email/contact info and wants to have me come to her next training and tell my story and what it meant for me to have a very sick baby in ICU be able to breastfeed and to take him home breastfeeding. Of course, anything to make good come from this experience I am so for! Ollie has some nurse training to do in the future!
