making my own breast pads need some help.

Thread Starter
So, I finally decided to bite the bullet and make my own breast pads. I usually go through 3 pairs a day. I used to use johnson n' johnson, but I really am tired of the waste of money and product (though..this might gross you out but it's a good frugality and finance slot. I let my used breast pads dry out and reuse them to dust with lol)

Anyways, I am looking for patterns (or what size they are normally made). I have terry cloth and flannel.

The ones that I used and liked the best were ones that were about 3" in diameter. I was given 5" ones and found them to be too large.

just trace a cd. Its the perfect size and gives you a nice seam allowance. No pattern needed

I traced some that I already had. I also made them out of a really nice soft recycled wool sweater. I think it was merino wool. With all the lanolin I used, it made them waterproof and they were great overnight. I used several layers and just zig zag stitched the edges.

In keeping with the DDC Guidelines, I am moving this to the crafts forum. You may also want to post in breasfeeding.

How about a pattern for knitted wool one?

If you don't know how to knit, you could join a craft swap and have someone knit them for you...

my fav breast pads were wool & organic cotton velour. wool is really awesome to use in pads, you can just let it dry between uses (like soakers). i'd highly recommend it. good luck!

I always hated those disposable ones. They irritated my nipples terribly. My MIL just cut some prefold cloth diapers into squares and sewed around the edges to keep them from raveling, and they worked great, lasted a long time, just threw them in the regular wash. They were the right absorbency, though they weren't always discreet if I had on a really thin shirt. Most of the time, I didn't care!
