Midwife appt...kinda funny...

Ok, so...my dh is a big intactivist. He took *the* circ video, copied it, put it on DVD, and took 10 copies to my midwives office about 4 years ago. They've been there ever since and anytime they get someone who wants to circ, they make them watch it. Its saved a lot of boys

Anywho, when we had our last visit the other day, my midwife asked if we saw what the baby was on ultrasound. I said yep, its a boy, very definately. She then said ok and I wont even ask if you want him circ'd...and I said well we changed our minds, we totally want it done (JOKINGLY-I've known this lady for about 5 years now, lol). She laughed at me and said yeah right-but you should've seen the student midwife...She's never met us before this and had this completely bewildered look on her face. I know she didnt know about the videos and all of that, and when the MW said yeah right and laughed, I think she thought she was being horribly rude. Dh explained the videos were from him and we'd had numerous discussions before about RIC. She looked so relieved!!!! And I know this isnt a joking matter but well, we're just sarcastic silly people and it popped out my mouth...

Actually I think if I said yes, (seriously) we wanted him circ'd, she would've tore into me.

It's nice to see circ' isn't accepted as normal everywhere in the states!

that is pretty funny.

I've been wanting to give my mw some info to hand out to her patients, but I like that DVD idea.

What is the DVD?

I'm glad the student mw was horrified initially! We actually were asked about two weeks or so AFTER our son was born if we were having him circ'd by our midwife. That's basically how she asked it. I said "absolutely not" so she knew where I stood.

But, I thought about it afterwards and thought...for a lot of boys that question would have come too late.

I have since found a website that she's done that has a TON of information and is quite obviously pro-foreskin and intactivist.

you can get dvd's at nocirc (I believe) for free for childbirth educators. I can't locate the info right now.

Yeah, I think that is where he got it. He got permission to copy it and hand it out before hand as well.

Although all of the midwives at this birth center are anti-RIC, this particular one is from Germany and was horrified at the whole thing when she came here. I think shes the most outspoken one about it, lol. I do know the other midwives with sons all left their boys intact as well though and they all stress not to have it done.

I'm also probably one of the few people who's OB was apparently against it or something....he never once asked me either and didnt do them himself, ever. I was told if I wanted it done (while in labor-first time it was mentioned) that I would have to pay out of pocket and have someone I didnt know do it, since my doc refused. So I wouldnt say he was blatently against it and I honestly dont know what he wouldve said if I asked about it before then, but it was nice not being pressured into it or something prior to his birth-esp since my mom was saying it needed to be done and I didnt really care either way at the time. (I assumed it was just a little snip of skin, if I'd seen a circ done before that, NO WAY would I have stayed neutral to the idea)
