Best (safe) Spray Sunscreen

Thread Starter
I need to find a spray sunscreen (pump, mist, whatever) that is safe. You know, no parabens, none of the other ickies...

I need to be able to spray my own back when I'm going outdoors with the kids during the day. I get them all slathered up in sunscreen and do myself too, but it's hard for me to reach and get my back done well. I'm also thinking I could spray the sunscreen on my head/ scalp...I got a bit burned the other day on the top of my head where my hair parts. Ouch. I think I a spray sunscreen wouldn't gunk up my hair as much as a lotion.

So let me know what you like (and don't like)

I've never tried this but Kinesys Fragrance Free (or the kids version, which is also fragrance free) got good ratings in skin deep.

0 UVB hazard/exposure score
2 UVA hazard/exposure score
1 sunscreen instability
Low health hazard score

The ingredients for the kids version are: ACTIVE INGREDIENTS: OCTINOXATE 7.5%, OCTOCRYLENE 7%, OCTISALATE 4%, AVOBENZONE (PARSOL 1789) 2%. OTHER INGREDIENTS: CYCLOMETHICONE, OCTYL PALMITATE, DIMETHICONE AND TRIMETHYLSLIOXYSILICATE, PVP/HEXADECENE COPOLYMER.

Not sure how you feel about using octinoxate, etc. I don't think you're going to find a spray without those types of sunscreens in them though.

I think kiss my face makes one, although I haven't checked out the ingredients. I was just checking out the sunscreens at our Kroger (I have to drive quite a ways to get to Whole Foods or the hfs), and the one that seemed the least harmful was Coppertone continuous spray spf 30. It had the gross chemicals in it (avobenzone, etc.), but the other ingredients list was short and contained no parabens. Check out www.skindeep.org They give the scoop on all this kind of stuff.

ETA: OMG I just checked out the Skin Deep thing on the coppertone spray that I mentioned above and it got a really bad score!! Please don't put it on your skin, mama! Sorry about that!
