Where does your LO w/allergies get hives?

DS has suddenly been breaking out in hives on his face, arms, and legs. At first we thought dust mites or an allergic reaction to our laundry soap (though we use free and clear and haven't switched for over 6 mos). We washed everything we had and that he came in to contact with, but he was still getting hives.

To rule it out, I cut out soy milk. The amount of hives compared to when they first appeared were dramatically reduced, but tonight he had some soy milk and a few hours later, he had crazy hives on his face and bum...

what I'm wondering is where do your LO's with allergies get hives? to me, it seems like he would get hives around his mouth or something if he were allergic to soy, but obviously, I have no experience. It seems that he gets hives when his skin gets really hot/sweaty or rubs a little on his clothes... does this sound like a food allergy?

I don't think you'd necessarily get the hives only on the face. My daughter gets eczema from corn between her thighs. That doesn't make sense either! Once the food crosses the intestinal barrier and gets into the bloodstream, it can go anywhere. Try taking the soy out all the way for about 5 days, then test again and see what happens (if you think it's only an intolerance) or take him to an allergist (if you think it's anaphylactic). If it's an intolerance, you'll need to take it out completely for 6 months.
