Scary MRSA Staph Infection/ Possibly Cellulitis During Pregnancy, Very worried.

I am almost 11 weeks pregnant and a couple of days ago I went to urgent care and was diagnosed with MRSA in my ear. They prescribed Clindamycin to take care of the Staph infection, and I've been taking that since yesterday. This morning I noticed that this very small bug bite looking thing suddenly had a red swollen painful, warm area around it, towards the back of my thigh (which looks similar to a picture of cellulitis that I saw online). What I'm wondering is, how high are the risks associated with having staph, taking that medication (a category b) and perhaps having another one on my leg? Also, since it seems like the infection is on my leg, does that mean that it has spread through my body, or could it have gotten infected from me touching my ear, and then scratching my leg without realizing it?

I'm just really worried about this affecting my pregnancy. It would be awesome to get some advice from either someone who has gone through having this kind of infection during early pregnancy and or a doctor.

Thanks so much in advance for any advice at all.

MRSA is nothing to fool around with. If I were you, I would try to see a specialist/ Infectious Diseases MD. You may need a referral from a PCP, but it would be good to have a specialist keeping tabs on the infection. An urgent care was a good place to start, but I'd definitely put myself in the hands of someone who has more experience with this kind of stuff.

Hope this helps and good luck.

Not to scare you, but I think you should be seen right away. If it is another MRSA infection, you might need more aggressive treatment. I would think that getting it under control as quickly as possible is important during pregnancy (and any time really). I would either go back to urgent care or go to your doctor today or go to the ER... I would definitely be seen today. Good luck... I hope you feel better soon!

Just backing up what ElektrykEye said, except I just really don't trust an urgent care. I would think an ER attached to a hospital would be a better bet in case they would need to admit you for IV antibiotics. I'm assuming you were given a scrip for oral abx. Any cases of MRSA that I've seen have been treated with IV abx, which are much stronger and work faster, etc.

I am 6 weeks pregnant and also have a MRSA infection and am taking the same abx. I also had a really bad infection about 2 months ago. I would follow up with a dr. to check on the bump you found on your leg. My partner and I have now passed it back and forth--yuck! There are two different types of the MRSA--the hospital one and the one found in the community--I have the community one which is less serious. Most people don't realize that MRSA has become much more common out in the community and isn't quite as threatening as the hospital cases. I still recommend you seeing another dr. for the bump on your leg.--It might have already been there and you just noticed today as well!
