That top is SERIOUSLY easy to knit. I am a procrastinator by nature, and have a hard time finishing things. I like to knit about 30 projects at a time, and that top took me all of a week.

I think they'll be adorable together. If you have leftover fabric, how about a little head scarf to match. My dd is 4 and loves to wear scarves tied around her hair.

thanks for the words of encouragement. i still consider myself a beginner and anything that isn't a square (or a rectangle) intimidates me. perhaps i'll try it (although i may be back here to ask for tips). i love the color you used too (do you mind if i steal it?)

Not at all!

The Bernat Softee Baby Ombres have several different colors that are just adorable, plus it's incredibly soft... I did the 6 month size of the top, and used just about half a skein.

What has you confused?

the whole beginning part. i-cords and crochet cast on, etc. ??? i think once it gets to the body, it pretty much makes sense.

i did look in a book i have and it does explain these things, so maybe i can work my way through it.

if i don't start challenging myself, i'll never get better.

I personally would be inclined to make a simple dress or skirt/shirt in a solid color using the colorful fabric as an accent. In short- it would be too much for me, but I prefer darker colors.

Alternatives to the crochet and i-cord: The crochet is just so you have live stitches at the bottom of the triangles, to knit from when you start the body. You could just do a regular cast-on and seam it together, or pick up stitches, or do a different provisional cast-on. The i-cording is fairly simple (and boring) but it's just for ties. If you don't want to do i-cording, just knit 3 stitch wide straps of the appropriate length (6 inches maybe?) and seam them to the back of the tank. Or do a button hole in the strap and sew buttons to the back of the tank.

thanks for the tips. i read about i-cording in a book i have and it seems simple enough, so i'll probably try it. hopefully i'll be back to show off the finished product at some point. the one you made is just so cute.

Definitely keep me updated on your progress!

I'm thinking about doing one for my older daughter, with button straps instead of i-cord.
