Bloody belly button

We're still getting a slight amount of blood from the belly button. Anja's 19 days old now and her cord came off on day 5. She had a yellowy small scab on her belly button until about day 15, when dh thinks perhaps 2yo dd might have accidentally scratched it off while trying to hug (smother ?) her. Then it formed a bloody scab. It was oozing blood for a couple days, then seemed to be just a small scab, and now today seems to be oozing a bit of blood today. My gut tells me not to worry, but . . . I'm worried anyway. Should I be? It's not even enough blood to get on a diaper or clothes or anything, I just didn't have this with the other girls.

i wouldn't worry--we went through the same thing except we couldn't see where it was coming from because of the depth of dd's belly button. Our midwife just advised us to clean it with some TTO and it cleared up. I think you have to worry more if the area around it is red or there is a bad smell.

I put neosporin on it.

Thanks! I've been using calendula cream and breastmilk (whichever I feel like whenever), and watching for redness around the belly button, smell, fever - and she's totally fine. I just wish it would heal! Somehow, going UC this time has actually made it harder for me to enjoy her newborn stage, I'm worrying about every little thing . . . I miss midwives being legal

Not in your ddc, but my dd had the same thing. Our ped put something on it and it stopped bleeding. It caused dd no discomfort. It's been over 3 years and I can't remember what it was, though!

Kierah's took forever to heal as well. We used liquid echinacea, golden seal, and TTO on it. Go easy on the TTO though if you try it. It irritated DD's skin, so I quit using the TTO. I hear ya on worrying more with UC. It's been the same way for us. I just continue to educate myself on what could go wrong and watch for warning signs. As she grows, I feel less appehensive about everything.

K had this-- ped said not to worry, just clean it w/ water aslong as there are no signs of infection. She also swabbed alcohol on the area around it, but we never repeated that. He's been all healed since three weeks or so.
