*insert my very skeptical aunt's raised eyebrow* All of her grandkids have been born at the 'baby factory' of hospitals in our area, so that's 'the way it should be' to her.

I guess my mom told my aunt (her sister) that we're planning to have this little one at home, so that's what I heard last night when she stopped by to drop something off. She asked me where we planned to do this? (While her doubtful/negative energy annoyed me a bit, it was hard not to laugh.) I glanced at my still-boxed birth pool and just said, "Wherever I feel like it when the time comes. Maybe the backyard for all the neighbors to see, who knows?" (Haha - we live at the bottom of a hill, so our backyard neighbors would literally be looking down at me...so that wouldn't really be happening...)

I'm certainly not the crunchiest person, but I've swayed quite far from mainstream, too. (Whatever best suits my immediate family!) Thank goodness I have my very supportive and totally on-board DH!

That's hilarious... the comments I got the first time around were surprising and though now wouldn't phase me in the least, were disturbing then. My family doesn't even ask anymore (esp. my Mom who had the biggest cow then). I prefer it that way as it's really MY choice and I don't mind what they think about it as they made THEIR choices, I get to make mine.

Me, I'm just not telling the people I don't want to hear crap from. I'm not telling DH's family. He's deployed anyway though, so he can't even tell him, and he doesn't mind that they don't know. I'm going to surprise his mom by inviting her over when I go into labor and she'll arrive all thinking we're ready to leave for the hospital... and i'll be like "oh, no, we're not leaving..." lol. And i'll leave it at that.

I get that too. My MIL tried to give me a guilt trip about how I was just trying to "make people worry". My plan was to not tell my inlaws or my neighbors but dh got "excited" and has told every person who walks by the house including the mailman! I'm not happy about it but hopefully no one will actually know when the time comes and i can just reemerge with a new baby. SOmetimes I dream of running away to a secluded cabin in the woods to have the baby so no one knows where I am.

I live in a clueless area. . .most are scheduled inductions/c/s and I am a freak of nature to them all (isn't that funny because it's thr most natural thing). Anyway people look and say the strangest things like "so your midwife gives you an epidural at home?!) Umm no i go drugless . Then they think it's dirty like giving birth in a barn, as opposed to cleaner less germs and infections hanging around. She prob think your awesome after the birth is over and want to talk about you

Oh yes. The comments are horrible. But then there are actually a few that are pretty positive. I tried to just listen to those. More power to you mama!

sorry you're getting crap about it. No one has really said anything BAD to me, but you can tell they are silently thinking "WTF"
I really wonder what my neighbors are going to think, they are all guys, in fact none of them have even asked me about my pregnancy besides one of the guys girlfriends asked if I was having another girl, and one of the guys offered to carry something for me obviously because I was big and pregnant. So, I'm wondering what they'll all think when they hear me laboring at home.....

oh, and it cracks me up, my dad asked me the "where" question too! I told him I'm getting a tub and its in the kitchen but really, I could birth anywhere. He just replied "oh, interesting...."
