Are you knitting in public today?

I totally love the idea of World Wide Knit in Public Day! This afternoon I'm going to KIP at a Barnes and Noble near my house. I found the event on the websit for WWKIP day, and it is organized by people I don't know. It should be fun to meet some other local knitters/crocheters.

I'm going to work on a Quinn bag. Last month, I finally finished the one I started with the KAL here -- only 18 months late, lol. I finally felt like I was really loving the pattern and getting it right, so I decided to start another one. I'm only 4 repeats into the top band.

One of my friends is a crocheter and she's going to come with me as well. I think she's working on a baby blanket at the moment.

I didn't know about this! We're going out to dinner later... I'll bring my knitting with me!

I did it! I had to go to the laundromat, so I took my knitting along. Out of about a dozen adults, two asked what I was making and one actually started a conversation with me! And all the kids stared (in a good way).

It really emboldened me. I'm working on leg-warmers for my youngest, to go with the wooly diaper cover I made for her (for this fall and winter). I was using DPNs, which annoy me immensely, and I decided to be really brave and try magic loop (isn't that what it's called?). All I had in the right diameter was a 16" needle, which makes it rather awkward, but it worked, and WOW did it speed up my work! I want to get a longer circular needle in that size now...

I didn't today unless you count my back yard as public. I did, however, knit at the park during playgroup on Thursday. Close enough, right?

I knit at the garage sale we had at my MIL's, and I got some nice compliments and comments - not to mention, I got so much done on my Feather and Fan scarf!
(I also scored a whole knitting basket at a sale; tons of knitting and crochet needles, yarn, crochet thread, and lots of doodads, all for $2 - yay!)

A woman caught me KIP at our farmer's market this morning (I was walking and talking to my DD with my circs in action) and called me "hardcore". A local fiber artists group had a sign out on the farmer's market lawn about WWKIP day and about 10 women were lounging around it with there WIPs. It was cool!! (DH teased me for not joining them...Hey, I was hanging with my family!)

WOW!!!! I would have *loved* to see that many people KIP. How cool!

There was about 20 people at the event I went to. It was fun to meet other knitters from the area. I found out there are several local knitting groups -- enough that I could go to a knitting group at least once a week if I want! the leader of one of the groups organized this KIP event and she had prepared a flyer with a list of all the local knitting groups, with the times and locations they meet. I can't do it this summer since I am taking classes in the evening, but I think I'm going to try to go to some of these regular knitting meet ups!
