Can I do all the IBCLC courses online or do you have to go to a college?

Just curious if the courses can be do solely online. I am not able to travel to a college. Please tell me!

You might want to take a look at http://americas.iblce.org/home.php for specifics on what's required to become an IBCLC.

Regardless of the other educational requirements, you will need hands-on clinical experience assisting breastfeeding mothers. So that part definitely can't be done online.

I believe something like 5yrs experience as a LLL Leader counts as the hands-on experience. I have one year down and four to go.

You can get all your CERPS online. I did mine at www.health-e-learning.com -- the BreastEd series. And then of course the BC hours must be done IRL. Hope that helps.

This is the one I'm doing. There are some LC programs that travel. I think there's one from UC Los Angeles that goes to various cities. I think this is it. Where do you live?

LLLLs get 500 hrs per year served.

Thanks for the info...I have found the courses on health-e-learning which I would have to take first.....
