Vomit on carpet

Anyone have any cheap ways to get puke smell out of carpet? My sister recommended Nature's Miracle, but that's pretty spendy, I believe.

It was a huge puddle, and I cleaned it up as well as I could but we were all in the middle of the bug and dd (the puker) needed the light off so she could go to sleep. So today I shampooed it with my cheapo Bissell carpet shampoo-er, and it still smells very bad. Help!

We struggle with puke in the carpet too from time to time and I just use wahtever random carpet stain/odor remover we have on hand. One thing that we do every so often to refresh our carpets and neutralize odors is just sprinkle baking soda all over it and then vacuum it up after a bit. It might help you too, couldn't hurt to try.

I've used vinegar and I've also used pine oil or pine-sol...whatever I have at the time...they all worked great...baking soda is a great idea too, I'd sprinkle it liberaly after cleaning it with vinegar because it will also absorb the moisture.

HTH! Good luck!

For vomit, I've scrubbed with vinegar, then sprinkled with baking soda to absorb more of the moisture and decrease the smell.

Nature's Miracle DOES work really, really well if you want to spend the money. It's worth it if you have pets and there's a chance you would use it again for pet stains.

BAC-OUT by biokleen works really well on smells. It has an almost lime-y citrus-y smell, smells fresh. I have used it on carpet before by squirting it onto a washcloth using that. You may want to test it in an inconspicuous spot first, but it has never caused discoloration for me.

ETA: You can usually find this at a grocery store like Martin's or Whole Foods or a health food store.

Kids -N- Pets is cost-effective, IMO, and uses enzymes versus chemicals. It worked really, really well on many bodily fluids from our DD when she was an infant and from our ill cat.
