what would a dentist do?

My dd, 28 months, has the ECC symptoms - white line on one tooth, yellowish spots on a few others. I have read this forum inside and out, we have started on MI paste, CLO, calcarea phos., also a trace mineral supplement for me and a multivitamin for her.

I have always brushed her teeth twice a day with xylitol containing paste, never been a juice in the sippy cup mama, only recently let her have raisins /dried fruit, all to take care of her teeth, and now this. It is frustrating.

I have a wide mistrust of the dentist I took her to at 15 months, who explained nothing to me and said let's put vitamins on your teeth! And painted her teeth with fluoride while I stood there agape - no one asked me or explained anything, they just did it. And see what a lot of good that did anyway! So I have to find a new dentist obviously. But my question is, what would a dentist do for her right now that I am not already doing?? I trust she would not benefit from any kind of drilling at this point since what we have is not exactly a cavity yet...

I don't want to be neglectful, but at the same time I don't want to subject her and myself to unnecessary probing and billing...

You've probably read my story already. I don't know what most dentists would do. I know that my dentist would recommend HealOzone and MI Paste (both most effective at the white lesion stage). My dentist would also carefully monitor the decay by using the Diagnodent - it gives a very useful indication of the level of decay and how it changes over time. For example, dd's canines had the white lesion stage decay. Now that the decay is arrested, they look and feel the same, but we know from the Diagnodent readings that those teeth are OK now (but they'll always be whitish even though they've remineralized).

The decay has started so I would recommend HealOzone. Sometimes decay spontaneously arrests, but I would not count on that.

Some HealOzone dentists (please note list not compiled by me):

Ksenia, you are super awesome for answering me. Thank you so much. I have indeed read your story with great interest

I am in NC - there is no HealOzone practitioner anywhere close. Maybe NY. Still, that's a ways to go. I am currently investigating what options there are anywhere close to here - the most I am hoping for is a dentist who is open-minded to remineralization. The one option I have found does not see children younger than 3.

What would a conventional dentist do? I fear drilling and guilt, and unnecessary/unproductive trauma. right? I don't know...

mimi, are you on the Chapel Hill Durham Alternative Parenting list? There's just been a discussion of dentists on there. Folks were recommending Michael Fleming (maybe in Cary) and Mike Willock (in Chapel Hill) as more holistic dentists. I don't have personal experience with either one. Don't know if they do kids or not, either, but might be worth a call. My dentist is not a pediatric dentist, but I know they see kids some, too, so maybe these guys would as well. My (unnamed) dentist is very mainstream so not what you're looking for I don't think...

beanma, it is I who posted the Fleming question on that list!! You can see, it is true, I am trying to chase down every possible option -

Fleming does not see kids under 3, so he's out -

William Lewis has been mentioned to me as well, but not sure he sees kids either-

How is it in crunchy med-technology-centric Chapel Hill/ Durham we do not have a HealOzone person??? It is probably just a matter of time, but I am in a hurry

Hey, I've got a friend in Philadelphia - maybe the King of Prussia guy would work. Ksenia, is it a one-time treatment? That would certainly justify flying/driving such a long ways - I would really rather her teeth not decay

ahhh..too bad. You'd think there might be somebody in Asheville, too, but I guess not.

We had four treatments, each 2 weeks apart but we saw the most significant results after two treatments.

IMO, you need to figure out if these are tartar, plaque, missing enamel (from enamel defects), or cavities (enamel gone). If you can't figure it out yourself, a trip to the dentist is a good idea. They won't charge much for a look-see. The King of Prussia dentist posts a lot on the alternativekidsteeth yahoogroup and he sounds great .
