Is PLU *REALLY* waterproof?

Okay, I'm new to the whole cloth diapering scene, and I must admit, I've only used cloth once on my little one so far (seemed to work great, I might add!). I'm thinking about making myself a nursing bra with PLU on the outside of the cups. (Can you tell I'm freaking SICK of going through 3 bras and shirts a day, LOL!) I'm thinking basically making each cup like an AIO (in concept, not design, ha ha) with additional removable HUGE pads held in by thin elastic.

Anyway, PLU sounds like the fabric of choice for the outside of the cups so that NOTHING, I mean NOTHING gets through, and then something soft and absorbant inside, and then something soft and very wicking next to my skin. I have a couple of wool pads that I love but they don't prevent the moisture from shooting right through and soaking my bras and clothes, so they might be my first choice for the pad itself.

Anyway, before I go and order PLU, just wanted to make sure it would do the job. BTW - where do you all order your PLU online?

Thanks!!

have you looked at something called "procare"

http://www.wazoodle.com/cgi-bin/cats...arrier;ProCare

I use this to protect my bed from accidents. It's completely waterproof and very thin.

maybe you could just add this to the back of the pads. I would think it would make your chest very hot and sweaty to have it cover the entire bra (possible yeast issues!). Plus this way you can just replace the pads as needed and not have to change your bra.

I use Procare for the wetbags I make and for mama cloth for myself; haven't had any leaks! I use PUL (polyurethane laminate) for my AIO diapers and it's a bit thinner than the Procare but also works really well. Hope that helps!

Yep, either PUL or ProCare would do the trick.

PUL would be thinner and a little more supple (1 or 2 ml thickness) and might conform to your body better without sacrificing any waterproofness (is that a word?). ProCare is a little crunchy, but only a little. There's something about the texture that drives my husband crazy. He refused to use the covers I made out of it!

With that said, do be careful to keep your pads dry underneath so you don't breed germs in your bra. You probably know that though.
