anyone know what this is:

it was found in a box of donated sewing items and has many people stumped

Well, the only reason I can guess is because I have a thrifted corset I need to sell that I tried on last week.

I think it's the front closure piece. Let me find a pic.

Ok, here. It's called a busk, and it looks like you could sell for a little bit of money!

Sooo....what are you going to do with it? =-) Making a corset sounds way challenging.

Yep! That's a corset busk. It looks like a really good one. The wider end ant the bottom is wonderful for preventing the bottom of the corset from flipping up. Corsets are not as hard to make as they seem. It is the fitting that can be tricky.

thank you so much! we've been driving ourselves crazy trying to figure it out :.

but, alas! i won't be making a corset. dp does all the sewing in the house (he came with his own sewing machine ), and he's going to use it in a sculpture.
