need help with pocket diapers

Okay, so I'm sewing a pocket diaper for my soon-to-be-newborn. I've only ever sewn one pocket diaper before, at a friend's house. She was kind enough to show me how.
That was several weeks ago, and apparently I've forgotten how to do the leg gathers. I'm supposed to be sewing in a piece of elastic at the sides of the diapers where the legs are. I did one side, and the fabric didn't bunch up like it's supposed to.
Any ideas on how I can fix that? I'm a bit desperate because I'm getting very frustrated with sewing diapers here. :
Thanks in advance.

There are several ways to sew in an elastic, and whichever way you do depends on your preference.

If you leg elastic didn't gather as much, it might be because you weren't pulling the elastic tight enough as you fed it through your machine. Also, if you're not using a 3 step zig-zag stitch, it might not work so well. Furthermore, depending on how many body layers you're sewing through, you might need 3/8 inch elastic instead of a 1/4 inch.

I only used this elastic sewing method a few times before I got sick of it and tried these other methods where the elastic moves freely in the casing:

The second method is a bit harder to master, but once you get the feel of where the elastic is and are able to sew a wide enough casing, it REALLY gathers even 4 layers of diaper body.

HTH!
