Kinda funny....I just remembered something that happened in college acouple years ago. The class got into a circ debate and I was literally the only one who spoke up IN FAVOUR of circ! lol How absolutely ludicrious!!! I wasn't so much in favour of RIC, but I knew someone who had infections and had to have it done blah blah blah. So basically, if people want to have it done, lay off! lol The teacher and a bunch of other people were arguing with me (smart people!).

I guess it's nice to know that they knew better, although i'm willing to bet there were more people who would circ and they just didn't want to speak up!

Wow, I'm kind of surprised that Ontario is lagging so far behind us (in Nova Scotia) on this. I've never seen a circed boy here or talked to anyone who has done it.

And now midwives! Covered! Woot!

I just think y'all should move here. It's ridiculously beautiful AND affordable. We need nurses, Night Nurse!

I was just about to say... I'm in NS, and the majority of my adult friend's are intact, and of the 80 plus boys I've seen in daycare I only knew 5 who were circ'd. (3 religious, one really old dad, and 1 medical.)

There is only one doctor left in the province who will still do it (there used to be 3) and it costs $300.

And yes, PEI has one very pro-circ doctor who makes it very easy to get. They have something like a 50% rate because of him.

I haven't seen a circ' baby in a few years here. I know the London, Ontario area has a higher rate of circ than other areas of Ontario for some reason.

No one even asked me if I wanted to circ my son.

There is one on the south shore who will do it for $100. All his information was given out in pre-natal class. Of the 9 people in our class , I believe 4 had little boys. I know 2 for sure were circed , my little guy was left intact and I am unsure about the other. Not a good statistic here

In 2003, only 1% of boys in Nova Scotia went under the knife.

I don't know the exact rate for Ontario but I think its under 20% and nationwide for you it is 10%. In Canada, the procedure is just not being recommended by the vast majority of peds. I remember reading whole bunch of news articles on this.

Tennis dude, I don't mean to be rude but quoting all your stats doesn't change the fact that many, many people I know are circed and will or do circ their kids. And they're not all in one rural area. Docs may not be recommending it but they are offering it to every pregnant patient that I know, including me (actually it was my midwife).

I don't know anyone who was offered circ, especially by a midwife!

I think it's because we have so many hospitals here and who knows what the doctors are saying.

It's a possibility, except I'm not a fan of cold weather. But we're using our economic stimulus check to buy passports. So maybe I might just head up north!

Somebody has to fall into that 10 or 20%. The people that you know would only make a tiny part of that statistic, no matter how small it may be. So, like I said, I think its all pretty accurate.

I think NightNurse is buying into stereotypes. Canada is not cold. While the climate varies depending on your location, just like the U.S., I can tell you London, ON's temperature can be just about 3 degrees cooler than Detroit, MI's. Sometimes, it's hotter. Now if you're going up to Nunavut... that may be a different story. It's overall cooler up there.

I think we need to start a The Case Against Canadian Stereotypes forum. lol I'm just playfully teasing you, NN. COME ON UP!!!
