It looks just a little better this morning after 3 doses. We'll see what tomorrow morning looks like. He isn't uncomfortable at all anymore (or doesn't seem to be). Even touching it doesn't make him fuss. I'm praying this will do the trick.

After the antibiotics (she said to only take it for 7 days), I'll get some good probiotics in him.

Glad to hear that he is doing better.

Tracy, please don't feel like I'm picking on you in any way. I feel a little like I've been pretty gloomy in this forum lately, and I don't mean to be.

My only beef with your ped is that without a culture, you have no way of knowing whether or not your son even needed the antibiotics. If this was separation, or a bug bite, or whatever, you probably would have seen improvement within a day without having to give him the meds at all.

I'm just glad that he's doing better. But also know that *if* it is early separation, it's quite possible that it will happen again. I'd just hate for you and your ped to get yourself into the mindset that he's prone to these nasty "infections" for which he needs to be eventually circed. We've heard about it happening again and again on this board.

Here's something you can look for -- have you ever seen your son's penis *while* he's urinating? Can you try to arrange to see if his foreskin is ballooning out at all? Because if it is, that's almost a sure sign that separation is happening and is completely normal.

And remember, none of us here can actually *see* your son's penis -- only you and your ped can. I know that I had read all the right things, and supposedly knew what I was supposed to know, but when *my* son's penis got all swollen, had some discharge, and he was crying that it hurt, I FREAKED OUT. I got reassurance here that it was normal, and lo and behold, the swelling, discharge and pain were gone by morning.

Keep us posted on how he's doing, OK?

THIXLE, thanks for the probiotic tip! Very helpful!
I know what you mean about doctors being too quick to prescribe antibiotics. I hate that he's on it, but the poor little guy... I was just so worried that I wanted to get him relief ASAP.

l_olive, It never crossed my mind that you were picking on me! lol! I welcome any and all advice! I don't know why my ped. didn't do a culture. I didn't know to ask, either. Besides, when would the results come back? 24 hours? I just wanted to get him help, pronto. I really don't see signs of separation. I truly think he has an infection (mother's intuition talking here. I'm no expert). Besides, he's only 9 months old. If he gets another infection (or what appears to be one), I'll be sure to mention getting a culture first to her and go from there. Also, I would *never* allow anyone to talk me into getting him circ'd. That's only a decision for him to make later on down the road if he so chooses. I don't think my Ped. would ever recommend that anyway by some of her remarks.

Still don't see huge improvement in him yet, but just a little. I'll see how it looks tomorrow morning.

Sometimes abx can cause yeast so be on the lookout for that as well.

I am glad that he is looking better.
