Knitted armor?

My 4 year old ds believes he is a knight. He has plastic armor but it seems uncomfortable and doesn't fit him well. I was imagining knitting and felting some kind of helmet and maybe some kind of vest in gray/silver. Has anyone seen a pattern for this? Or a way to wing it? I'm an intermediate knitter, but I think I could pull it off.

I've done knitted chainmail before now- string and garter stitch then spray paint silver. A tabard would be simple. TBH, I'd be inclined to make the helmet out of a felted sweater, as layering pieces together will give you a pretty authentic look- you'd be aiming for a leather effect, yes?

I made this one last month. I used a silvery caron simply soft and size 15 needles to fit a 5 yr old. Unfortunately I forgot to take pictures.

I found that one in my searches. I printed it out. I think I'd add some leather cord to keep it from looking like it just mom's big sweater! I had trouble searching because when I googled "knit armor" or "knit chainmail" I learned that actually making real chainmail is called "knitting." And, when I googled "knit helmet" I learned that many people call beanies "helmets." And, for some reason, it seems that many Knitting Nights are called "Knitting Knights!"

Good suggested on using an old sweater. I had pictured it looking like plates of metal, but maybe I should think of making it look like leather. Hmmmm.

I also found this hat which is a dino but seemed like if it was silver would look "knightish":

and I found this:

Though it is hard to see the pic, it seems cool.
Keep the suggestions coming!

There is one in New Knits on the Block by Vikkie Howell. I found the book at my local library.

ETA: the pattern is called Knight Rider.

That's the one I was about to recommend. I love that book, too!
