kinda OT-diaper cover sewing ?

I know a lot of you mamas have been sewing diapers up a storm lately! I'm trying and so far made one cover WAY too small, and another today that looks like it will fit ok but I have a question: is it ok if the FOE didn't really bunch the leg holes up? I really tried to pull it tight, and it is slightly bunched, but not nearly as much as my store-bought cover.....
FWIW I'll be using either snappi'ed prefolds or some fitteds underneath....those will hold in the messes even if the cover isn't as tight as it could be, right?

I guess it depends on how loose it is. I'm not super experienced sewing with FOE but you definitely don't want the legs to be too loose on your covers, especially the NB ones since NB poo is runny and notoriously blows out the legs of prefolds and fitteds.

It may be your PUL. Cotton PUL tends to be stiffer, and so does 2 mil vs 1 mil. So the cover you bought may be 1 mil polyester, so it would bunch more, but your elastic would still work fine. Does that make sense?

I would take the cover you bought, and the cover you made, and close them, and then compare the size of the leg hole. If the leg hole is too big, you could add regular 1/4 inch elastic just inside the leg to tighten it up.

My first attempts at making my own diapers had the leg holes not tight enough. I still use them when I'm pretty sure my baby isn't going to poop. They soak up urine just fine. Since you'll have the fitteds underneath, you should be OK unless you have a really runny or newborn poo.
