Copper IUD and Side effects - Page 18

Hi Ladies,

This is my 3rd post.  I posted my symptoms earlier, but I am now having more things go wrong.  EVERYTIME I EAT, I GET A PANIC ATTACK within 10-15 minutes!!  Has this happened to anyone else??  I am starving!!  Its like now all of the sudden I am allergic to food!!  So now right after I eat I take a shot of Jack daniels to keep the panic attack at bay.  This SH*T just keeps getting worse!!  My husband and I talked about me getting the iud out and we decided it would be best for him to get a vasectomy first.  It is not wise for me to get pregnant again due to health issues.  But I dont think I can handel another month!!!  We read that if you have it out when your not on your menstral cycle since the cervix isnt soft, the strings can come out leaving the IUD in and you have to have surgery to have it removed.  Well we dont have ins. so that would be to costly!!!  I am so scared all the time, and I am so sick of the anxiety and panic attacks!!!!  Im sorry, Im venting.  But noone understands me, they think its all in my head!!  Well I was VERY level headed until this stupid IUD!!

You are not crazy! I have developed an intolerance for food also especially foods high in copper such as wheat and chocolate. I have removed mine but I'm still trying to recover and get my copper/zinc balance back in sync. Trust your mind and body...... No one understands me either but I know me better than they know me. If you don't feel right, have it removed to eliminate that as the problem. But again you are not crazy and we all here on this thread understand! Keep us posted!

I went to see my doctor yesterday because I had what ended up being a panic attack the night before. I said, enough of this! She was very understanding & very sympathetic, but had never heard of the copper iud causing anything like this - or at least anyone putting 2 and 2 together. I came in with my symptoms logged, day to day for four months, which she found very helpful. We're testing m thyroid and for anemia, but I bet we find nothing. She gave me some alprazolam (Xanax) to help immediately for these pre period anxiety attacks & insomnia, but she said that its not a good solution. She also said that she could offer a daily pill to help, but it seems pointless to need to take a daily pill (should have asked what) to cover up he symptoms caused by the iud.

So, I'll be headed back in once the post ovulation smell takes over again & we'll see if it's something more serious than just a "smell." At that point, I'll need to decide if I want it yanked out or left in. She totally sympathized that the complete lack of sex drive is ridiculous & I shouldn't have to deal with that just for birth control. I feel much better having a doctor trying to help me...I'm hoping that if I can control the anxiety and panic attacks (god, I hate being one of THOSE people!) this Pms week, that my sex drive might come back since I'll be more well rested. That's the hope anyway.

I thougt I would update, since its just another doctor that has never heard of the Paragard causing any of these troubles-although she 100% believes that it's no coincidence & hopes we find something to help. She did mention the progesterone only pill or depo as a possible solution, as the lack of estrogen can be a possibility for those with hormone issues. Or, there's some pill with small mounts of hormones through the period week that could help the menstrual migraines.

So, there's ideas & a doctor willing to help. I hope I'll find some answers that might help!!

Well, I was away from home all of last week and so my vitamin/mineral intake was off-schedule....I only got to it at night since I didn't want to carry them with me all day.......the only change is that I started getting a boil on the OPPOSITE side of my chin!!!  So weird!!! I have only ever gotten them on the right side and all of a sudden I had one on the left!  I had not taken enough zinc last week so I got back on that and it is clearing up slowly....Everything else is about the same....hair still falling out though lots growing in.  THe acne on other parts of my body is much better than it had been, so that is good!  OH and I got a yeast infection last week---started just before we left....ahhh!!!  I haven't had one in at least 10 years, so that was crazy!  Maybe I messed up the balance down there with all of these vitamins and stuff....I eat lots of yogurt with probiotics, so who knows......I kept thinking that it was just like the itching I had at times with the IUD--that never turned into a yeast infection...but this time it did :(  I move back to the US next week, though, so I will be able to get a hair analysis and find a good practitioner to work with and see if I am on the right path!  Hope everyone is having a nice Monday!!!

catratcha~! Sounds like me to a degree- acne appearing on my left chin area this week too! So glad you'll be in the US and have access to HTMA...i have never had the yeast symptoms w/ nor w/o IUD...whewww...however my body has decided to make me not have a period - today is day 35. Yes its not long for most however my cycle for almost 25 years has been 20-26 days...i took EPT and I;m not pregnant...so per my practictionor its the copper on my hormones ? Anyone lese get this lengthy time btwn cycles? PS Catratch did you post your chart to the yahoo forum?? I am thinking that I  should add a column for peroids etc.  take care Ladies!!

Oh and after writing this morning, it is now back on the right side, too!  So double boils this week!  WTH?!?!  Yuck.  Yea, I had never had yeast issues before except for one time after lots of antibiotics...but I had weird itchiness with the IUD (sorry, TMI! LOL) that came and went randomly and never developed into an infection...until now.  IDK.  My period has gotten like 2 or 3 days shorter since removal but it has come basically on time...maybe a couple of days early but nothing major..

I haven't had time to do much with the chart lately--looked at it, thought about it, and then started traveling and all....now I am packing all of my belongings and moving out all of my furniture, etc......maybe in a few weeks I will have time!!

I am thinking that I will get a diaphragm once I get to the States...not sure that there are any other options left and my fiance despises condoms!  What are the rest of you doing?

Catracha - I would recommend natural family planning... you could use the LadyComp or another computerized device to chart your temperature in the morning. I had the diaphragm before the IUD and if you have problems with chemical sensitivities - the spermicides may cause problems for you (yeast infections, cystitis, and bladder infections are pretty common side effects).

Here is the link for the Lady Comp - http://www.lady-comp.com/

There is also a Baby Comp that does pretty much the same thing... I know there are multiple others that are cheaper that you could look into. But I am not sure about the effectiveness.

Only problem is that natural family planning is time consuming and really requires your commitment to take your temperature every single morning and keep up with your fertile days.

There are numerous studies with differing statistics on effectiveness of natural family planning (because its difficult to determine if the people are actually charting their temperatures perfectly and avoiding sex or using condoms during more fertile days) but for the most part - those with strict adherence to natural family planning methods have a higher effectiveness rate than the diaphragm alone.

Yea...I grew up Catholic in Catholic school and high school...NFP was rather a joke with all of the HUGE families.  Not saying it doesn't work but supposedly all of those people used it....

We were taught a lot about it in high school...I understand it and it would be great if it weren't so much work.  I really want to recover more before getting pregnant.  I can't imagine a baby sucking out the few nutrients that I have in me after all of this....and the copper levels that would be passed on.

I did wonder about the spermicides.....but I am not sure how I will do with the temp and all.  The thing is that my fiance is from another culture and wants kids yesterday!  LOL.  So the whole topic is a bit of an issue right now since he doesn't yet understand how expensive it is to have a kid in the US.  We are moving next week, so he will get a bit of a clue then!  Thanks for the info!  I will check out those sites!

Hi All,

Well I got the tests back for my thyroid etc and all were thankfully normal. Everything has come pretty much back to normal particularly my skin and feeling like exercising again too libido through the roof again yippee!!!

I have had two regular periods since removal and my third was due a few days ago but has not arrived as yet (no DEF not pregnant) - just wondering if anyone else had their cycles mixed up for a bit after removal......? any comments thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

I have pre IUD had clockwork 28 day cycles and don't really think there is a possibility of early menopause.

I am still so pleased about the choice to get it out never again will I have a foreign body or substance for birth control!

oh my,I feel yah lady.Mine came with extra 2 or 3 pounds daily. After birth of my wonderful daughter,I was 148lbs so to say, being normal 120-125lb before preg. However, fearing or rather not ready for another preg,I put that thing, and WALLAH!I started having a new impatient persona.I yelled, screamed and swear to everybody around me.Nobody around me was doing me any good,I started shutting down.I'been a Nursing assistance fro 12yrs with o issues with patients of all kinds, but after IUD,I LOST MY JOB,just because of my swearing and screemng a t patient in the facility.Duh,my mom, noticed and call OBYG,SCRAPE THE CRAP OUT,AND BOOM 4DAYS LATER ME GOOD BEHAVIOUR RETURNS,and thank God the facility understood after lawyers and pychics were involved, and good patients who believe in me for years.(actually they threaten to leave the facility if their little clown is not reinlisted,m eof course)SO,HELL YEH,SIDE EFFECTS ARE THERE WITH THIS THINGS!GOOD LUCK.

I'm pretty sure I had thyroid issues, so my cycle is still not back to normal. I went from having 19 day cycles to 28 and now 32. But, my morning temps are rising (not as a sign of fertility, they're getting higher on average) so I think things are straightening out. Plus, I'm exercising again and better able to control my temper and having fewer reasons to have to control my temper (kids still do crazy things, but I can handle it better).

Hi!

Do you think you could help me out with the whole detox process? I just got my IUD out two nights ago after coming across this thread. I was having pretty much all of the symptoms everyone else is describing: insomnia, extreme anxiety, weight gain, depression, horrible horrible acne, etc. etc.

I'm so so so happy to have found this thread. My life has completely gone down the tubes since I got the IUD and I'm so grateful to have figured out what was really causing all of the problems in my life.

Anyway, I am seeing a new dr. who told me right away to get the IUD out because of the copper and at first I doubted him but now I see how horrible it was.

From here I want to really do a good detox so if anyone has any suggestions please let me know!

Thanks :)

Julie

Julie,
This is my previous post about detoxing. Hope it helps.

For those looking for detox info, this might be helpful. (Note: I haven't used this, an online friend posted it after a discussion on our group about lead removal).
Reasonably-priced mineral analysis. Checks for mineral imbalances in your body & detects heavy metals. They recommend specific supplements to correct each individual's imbalances--based on the lab results.
http://www.arltma.com/HairAnalysis.htm

I also have a friend that is an herbalist, or something along those lines. For copper detoxing she recommends Vit C (NOT ascorbic acid). "I suggest taking TONS of C COMPLEX (NOT ascorbic acid!). Rosehips, acerola cherry powder, etc. Take C Complex every hour, increasing your dose until you get diarrhea (not just loose stools). Then take 3/4 of the total you have taken so far and divide that number by 2, and that will be your daily detox dose for the next 3 weeks or so. So....if you take 1/2 teaspoon of acerola cherry powder at 8:00 a.m., and 1 1/2 tsp. at 9:00, 2 tsp. at 10:00, and by your 3 tsp. dose at noon you've got diarrhea, your total amount for the day so far would be 9 1/2 tsp. 3/4 of that is 4 1/2 tsp. So, your dose for the next 3 weeks is 2 1/4 tsp. at breakfast, and 2 1/4 tsp. at supper. Now, that is quite a bit of C Complex, so I'd suggest if you use acerola cherry powder, that you start out your day of "dosing" testing, with increments of 1/4 tsp. at a time."

You have to be very careful in what you get. I went to the natural foods store and asked for vit c. What I was given did have rose hips and acerola, but the main ingredient was ascorbic acid. I was several huge doses in and it wasn't affecting me, but my nursling would have diarrhea when she nursed. That's when I went back and checked the label a little more closely. Have to say, I was pretty pissed. She also suggested combining this with an Epsom Salt bath every day while drinking a tea that is sweat inducing, like yarrow. So, hot as you can take it tea and bath. You want to treat it like a steam bath (if you have access to a steam bath or sauna, even better!); putting a towel under the door to hold in the heat helps. I still haven't found a source of Vit C in town, so am ordering it. Will let everyone know how it goes.

I wanted others to note the Face book page regarding Paragard - hope you get a moment to read this page.  https://www.facebook.com/ragan.nikolaou?ref=tn_tnmn#!/pages/Paragard-Dont-GET-ONE-Woman-helping-woman-to-be-informed/183953164966198?fref=ts    Some of the stories are heart breaking! Also one post is regarding a 16 yr old who now has PID and will never be ab le to conceive! The FB page is also trying to get an attorney as well against Paragard and / or its parent company.

RE DETOX: http://drlwilson.com/detox_protocols.htm  Also read Why Am I So Tired? written by Dr. Ann Louise Gittleman...specific protocol and diet for copper toxicity AND Adrenal fatigue issues, as these typically go handNhand.  Many blessings- Oklahoma

A FaceBook user has  requested for the Better Business Bureau to develop a report for Paragard so that formal complaints can be filed against them properly. It may not hurt for other to do the same: Here's the link: www.bbb.org

Alright thanks I'll start to look into that! I'm seeing a new D.O. (Osteopathic) so I'll try to update with what he wants me to do as well. We are coming up with a detox plan over the next few weeks. Going to give blood tomorrow evening because I saw some people say that that helps on here... My next door neighbor has a sauna so I'll try to make use of that too!

Thank you for all of your help :)

Hello all,

Just wanted to let everyone know that Duramed Pharmaceuticals is in charge of manufacturing Paragard so if anyone wants to file a complain on bbb.org that's who you would be filing against. I'm in the process of typing up my complaint at the moment so wish me luck!

I urge everyone else to do the same! I'm going to start working with a friend's dad who is a lawyer to see if any legal action can be taken here. Will keep everyone posted.
