smellly drains

I have two drains that are not so sweet, one is the kitchen sink with a garbage disposal and the other is the floor drain in the laundry room, just below the kitchen. The kitchen sink smells bad, more sour and the floor drain smells faintly of sewer gas. I've tried vinegar and baking soda, Dr Bonners and a citrus cleaner, also a lemon. It seems better but still there. There was lots of gunk on the underside of the black rubber flap that I got cleaned off but it still seems a bit nasty when I take a sniff. We don't use the floor drain in the laundry so I've heard that the water can evaporate in the trap, so I've put additional water and a few drops of oil to keep is wet but is still seems nasty too. Any ideas? Could they be related?

The drain in our shower recently smelled like a sewer, we don't usually use that shower as we use the front shower/bath. We didn't attempt to try baking soda/vinegar because we thought it was a sewer problem so we called the maintience people for our complex, and they poured bleach down there. It worked none-the-less...

My mom has problems with her bathroom shower smelling like sewer gas. Turns out that all of her neighbors do too, and they think it's more of a 'city' problem backing up.

smelly drains

Pouring water down the floor drain should help that (we get that issue too). Pour straight white vinegar down your kitchen sink and that should kill most of the bacteria trapped in there.

I recommend pouring boiling water down the drain, several times. Then you might want put a lot of tea tree oil or lemon oil or something that can disinfect them...you can also try baking soda (LOTS) and vinegar until it foams out (all science class style) all over and brings up all the yucky things.

Also, for your kit. sink, check to see if you trap needs cleaning.

I don't know if your stinky drain is caused by gunk that slows it down, but I was just sitting here reading and watching "How Clean is Your House"...they mixed 2 oz table salt + 2 oz baking soda + 2 oz vinegar kind of pushed through the holes in the drain...followed by lots of boiling water.
