6 weeks tomorrow.....now I need info on midwives!!! i wasn't able to homebirth here last time so I need rec's! We're possibly considering UA but really IDEALLY we'd both love someone who would like to be present and teach, do the checkups but be really uninvolved.

WOW, Danielle! That IS a shock! Isn't the timing of babies amazing?

Midwives... of course I recommend Betty because I had her. She reminds me of the old-school grandma midwives. She seems like a mom, really. Super sweet and yet knows how to take charge.

Billy, Amy, and Lisa are the others that I can think of.

Wow, congrats Danielle! Two of my sisters have had Billye Matthews out of Benson and they love her.

Lisa we're not doing much today besides work at home and a run to the library. If you find something fun maybe I'll ditch my responsibilities. I've been a stress case lately.

but anyway, tonight is DATE NIGHT for us! We're about to take C to my mom's house to go out for dinner. I'm even wearing a dress! :

We ended up getting a call from an old friend who is back in town and meeting up at the Children's Museum, or the Germ Museum as DH calls it!

BTW, I didn't know that you can still plant squash! but you just won't get as much fruit because the frost will probably take it. Is it just me or is anyone else getting excited about autumn? I swear it's my favorite season.

Thanks for the nice welcome messages! We made it to New Mexico today, but barely - the truck was struggling to climb the Raton pass @ 30mph. I was afraid it was the transmission. But the weigh station people at the top of the pass helped me find a repair shop nearby. I looked at the clock as we chugged into the place - 5:00 on Friday, I had to laugh at the timing!

All the same, the mechanic was kind, checked this & that, took us for a test ride and diagnosed it as the fuel pump. *and* called a guy who works for him to ask if he could come in on his day off tomorrow to fix it. He said he would!! Then the owner guy directed us to a beautiful state park to camp tonite.

So we're still in Colorado but anyway, I love Colorado - esp. In the summer. I briefly (like for under a minute) considered moving to this cute little town (Trinidad). Then I noticed two snowmobiles at the mechanic shop, oh no, this isn't the right place for us!

Let's see if my phone lets me post this....

Congrats! Don't know if my "quote" worked right or not - haven't posted in a LONG time.

So, midwives I recommend are Lisa Block-Wieser, CNM and Lia Byrnes, LM.

Lisa Block-Wieser may be more hands on than you prefer, however, she can run IV and suture if needed, she also can perform her own sonograms, blood work, and prescribe Rx. Nice if you are looking for all-inclusive care. LMs would need to send you to GP or Birth Center for any unrelated health concerns or for labs during pregnancy, but Lisa is a whole-family health care provider.

Lia Byrnes, LM apprenticed with Lisa for five years and is now on her own. Probably least expensive of the midwives as she is just starting to build her own practice. I know she runs IV (not all LMs do) and I assume she sutures, but I would check on that, as not all the LMs do. Of the two, I think Lia would be more hands off / spiritual with her approach, but I cannot say for certain.

thanks so much for the rec's! SO was worried that we wouldn't be able to find any based on info from one of his clients who is an CNM but mostly just teaches as a nurse not as delivery. I knew I was right though! There's a small but good pool of CNM/LM's to pick from.

I'd love to meet up again with you guys but SO has the car every morning and I am NOT taking him to work to have the car (it's 40 minutes from here and 5 in the morning!) AND we're moving to picture rocks in 3 weeks. It's a REALLY sweet plot though. Fenced all around, half acre and just spacious.

Maybe some afternoon a coffee shop would be in the cards for someone?

Lia was around as Lisa's apprentice throughout my first pregnancy and was at dd's birth. We really liked her approach quite a bit. Lisa's also really awesome but definitely more hands on.

Would me and my daughters (28 mos and 11mos) be able to join in on the fun? When and where? Hopefully somewhere nice and cool, since we don't have AC in our car!

Re: midwives

I used Lisa for my first birth at home but couldn't afford her a second time, so we went through our insurance and the birthing center near TMC. SUCH a difference. I can't reccomend homebirth with Lisa enough. She is confident and assured and added a layer of calm to the birth.

That said, Lia was her assistant at the time and I clicked very well with her. When they showed up for the birth, I was anxious and pacing. She took hold of me, looked me in the eye and told me to meet the pain down in my gut, don't be scared of it, to just breathe. After that, I wasn't scared. Took the fear away completely and I just breathed my way through the labor. She seriously said the magic words I needed to hear.

You would be in excellent hands with either midwife, although I agree, I think Lisa is a little more hands-on/involved then Lia, but they both are great at reading how much involvement a mama wants from her midwife. I also loved their assistant, Shana! Wonderful experience all around. They took great care of me and my baby.

The midwives at the Birth Center are more like doctors than midwives, but their staff has changed recently, so they could have some better providers. At least they are supportive of natural birth, breastfeeding, etc. You also have the option of using a birthing tub. Many insurances cover it, too.

Hi Moonkeymama! We try to meet at Connor Park on Thursday mornings, but it doesn't always end up happening. We also use this thread to plan other outings and generally share about our lives.

oh, and one more thing:
We cut Carter's hair!!!! We decided it was time, the hair was mostly becoming a distraction and was starting to get stuck in his snot all the time, which was just gross.

snot hair yuck!!! i hated cutting E's hair when it was curly at around 18 months but it was just to much too.

i got the feeling that Amy will be my choice...just a gut feeling but we'll be interviewing the several others just to make sure. SO isn't going to go with my gut! I'm also loosing my insurance in a few months so everything is going to be OOP.

sorry we missed the party. we went to SO's parents for dinner (they don't know yet so we giggled our heads off)

Oh and I'm looking at the listings of CNM/LM/RN type stuff through a google search and has anyone heard of Felecia Lowery, Damiana Cohen, or Susan Merski? All three don't say if they are birth providers or what and they are tucson area....*shrug*
