Playgroup in Tucson - Page 118

Sarah, sounds good! I'm pretty sure I have lots of jars, they're just kinda scattered about the pantry.

Danielle, yes, come over! 8-3ish is the time frame.

Note to self: a souvenir teacup from Austria does not make a good baby toy while you are computer-ing! >=O(

Hm, I don't see my post from last night anywhere. The computer must have eaten it somehow?

Anyway - we've been here a couple of days and we're loving it, what a great home this will be for our family! I haven't been feeling this good in a long time. :

I'm just enchanted, honestly. I was here years ago but I didn't notice it as a potential home, due to other things that were going on in my life at the time. I've been stalking houses for sale & rentals on street view for months, & seen lots of places I liked, but no photo can show what it's like to be here of course.

I'd really love to come to the playgroup tomorrow if it would be OK. My kids are older than most of yours (my youngest ds is 8, older ds is 16 and dd & her friend are both 19). The girls are closer in age with some of the moms in your group than with most of the little cutues, I guess! Wow, it goes so quickly.

Holy cow. That's a BIG cowboy hat that man is wearing over there. (Looking at someone who's walking to his truck, across the parking lot from my "campsite" here at the RV place.) What's the significance of a really big hat like that, anyone?

We're leaving this RV camp in a few minutes, and would like to find another one that accepts kids, and is either centrally located (as in walking) or in a beautiful natural location that isn't too remote.

I'm tired of driving around in this thing & should get a car. This is bad!! I need to sell it while there's still anything left on the right side. I've already removed the stairs and a window, it's not a good match for me.

mei tei?

hey, if anybody reads this tonight... if you are going to Lisa's tomorrow and you have a mei-tei, would you bring it so I can try it on? I'm wondering if the straps will be easier to maneuver around my belly than my Beco waist clip.

IT"S RAINING!!! :: Carter and I just went for an awesome walk and got totally soaked--he loved it! So glad we are both rain lovers!

And Ombraluna, I'm so glad you're enchanted! Hopefully this monsoon storm tonight will do even more to capture you.

Sarah, I wont be there, but I do have a hardly used one you can have if you decide it would be useful. It's a pretty floral print on one side and tie dye on the other.

I also have a Britax Roundabout that Ella has grown out of if anyone wants that. It's 4 years old so the denim cover is pretty faded but the seat is in good shape. No car accidents, of course.

He's a project manager for a company that builds museum/zoo exhibits. Right now they are working on expanding the elephant exhibit at the LA zoo. We went there today and got to peak at the work through the fence. Mainly the kids and I wandered the zoo. I hate zoos, but was fairly impressed by the chimp and gorilla enclosures. My guy got his first jewelry--a necklace with a giraffe on it. He is so proud of that thing.

Our motel is right by an outdoor shopping mall called the Americana. It is the perfect location for staying with little kids. There's the trolley, the dancing fountain, a playground, grass for running, an 8 story glass elevator with an eiffel tower on top that lights up at night. There's also a drug store with ice cream for $1.19 for a single scoop. Then there's the cupcake shop...It's so great that I've been able to just walk out the parking lot of the motel and we're in this funky little kid-friendly zone.

I'm bummed I'm going to miss the prickly pear event. That sounds great. We'll be heading back towards Arizona tomorrow.

Congrats to the newly pregnant mamas out there.

Pam- bummed you're missing it too. I was thinking last night, she must not be back yet since she hasn't responded to the invite. Sounds like fun where you're at. I love nothing more than to be stuck somewhere with my kids and be forced to wander the streets looking for kid friendly places. That is also DH's nightmare, so it rarely happens!

Ombre*Luna, your odyssey sounds lovely. Again, another favorite of mine, to tramp across the country with my loved ones. Pretty much anything that involves exploring is tops on my list.

Sarah- no mei tai here! Just the Ergo, which is so similar in my mind, which you're welcome to try, but that's basically what you have already.

The rain was love-love-lovely. I was out at 10pm picking fruits in the sprinkling cool air. I procrastinate to make things more exciting! Now I'm up, and having drank way too strong of tea am burning off some energy on the computer. Time for a facebook update!

The Gster is just waking up now. She always seems to sleep late when we have something going on in the morning. We'll be over when I can pull stuff together around here.

Becca-Great! We look forward to seeing you.

I just talked to Jen and she said O has a fever! Sending good vibes...:

I pulled the prickly babes out of the freezer. The clouds are clearing up. Sarah is here! :

Thank you Lisa for a lovely morning! Gianna clearly had a blast and it was refreshing to my spirit to visit with you ladies. A friend just posted this link on facebook and thought I'd share it for more juice ideas:

Yes, thanks Lisa! My spirit was way refreshed, too (and it wasn't just the strong tea that got me feeling good... ).

We may go to the botanical gardens tonight---the twilight thursday theme is "hispanic heritage night" and they will have ballet folklorico dancers. I think C will love watching the dancers!

I just realized I have the Prickly Pear cookbook!!

I'm inspired to make the ceviche recipe in here... the marinade has prickly pear juice in it. Yum!!!

Super fun today! Brianna, the way we did it was to just send it through the juicer. It worked out okay. Very loud; Micah needed consoling until he fell asleep. The juice came out good. Sweet. Messy, but technically very simple. We just had to keep cleaning out the juicer when it filled with pulp. Also, we had to skim the foam off the top of the juice. I started with three grocery sackfuls of fruits and ended up with about two gallons. Haven't processed the juice yet.

Sarah, any kind of food-related activity sounds good! We could process the nopales and can them. Or even just baking. Tamales are a great group activity. And it isn't very good for you, but how about a taffy pull? Something about that intrigues me. Or there's always putting in a garden. Or sewing something bulky, like a quilt, but who needs a quilt in Tucson?
we had a fantastic time yesterday too! the kids had SOOO much fun and so did I! we'll certainly have to do more food related stuff. mmmm tamales..those are hard! (or so i've been told lol)

I really wish we didn't miss the prickly pear party yesterday, it sounds like you guys had a great time! We're on a later schedule than everyone else evidently, and by the time we worked out all the little glitches (no shower in the campground we stayed at Wednesday night, etc.) it was too late to come.

We took our second unexpected detour thru Tucson Mountain Park yesterday. Wow! It occurred to me that Dr. Seuss must have grown up in this area (although research later disproved that theory). I <3 saguaros and all their beautiful sharp-spined friends!

I brought my Gocco (screenprinter) with me, and haven't used it the whole trip. I'd like to do some drawings of the cacti and print up some cards, shirts, etc. - maybe today. Tomorrow I need to drive to Phoenix to bring dd's friend to the airport.

OK, will this post? We're having very spotty internet & phone karma lately.

hey mamas! we are heading up to summerhaven for the live music in the mountain concert today... from 12-5.... anyone going to be up there?
