Does anyone know if it's safe to take Vicoden in the second trimester. I am sitting at the computer right now bawling my eyes out, I'm in so much pain. I took 2 acetamataphin 2 hours ago and it's not helping at all.

Have you tried 4 ibuprophen? That is what I would do.

Ibuprofen is supposed to be good (although I don't know if it will cope with really bad pain)... but is 4 safe?

Try making up warm salt water (like sea water saltiness... get the temp just right so that it doesn't make it worse!) and holding some in your mouth around the painful tooth... repeat with remaining liquid. Repeat this every couple of hours, or when the pain gets worse.

Try quite firmly pinching deep in the webbing between your thumb and first finger, and holding the pressure for a couple or few minutes, to lessen pain... this is an accupressure point for tooth pain.

Try rubbing ice in this same point on your hand for few minutes.

Can you get someone to go out and try to get you some numbing oral gel?

I hope these things help... bad toothache can be worse than labour!!!!

Can you make an appointment with a dentist right away. At this point in your pregnancy they would likely pull the tooth if it is that bad but a wouldn't wait long. I had a mild toothach in my second tri with my youngest and I didn't go to the dentist untill I was about 30weeks and they couldn't do a thing. I ended up living with the horrible pain until I delivered at 35 weeks. I then had the tooth taken out before I left the hospital as it was infected (and may have played a role in the pre-term labour and preterm birth of my DD)

800 mg, which is the amount in 4 ibuprophen is equal to the rx strength pills. I'd discuss it with my Dr or Midwife just in case though. It's helped me with really bad pain. But it won't work for the absolute worst, like a failed root canal, an impacted wisdom tooth ect.

I'd see a dentist asap. Fwiw, I had what I thought was a horrible toothache in one of my upper back molars and it turned out to be a wicked sinus infection. I hope you find relief soon!

It's a class B in Dr. Hale's book and I have taken in pregnancy so I would take it and then get in to see a dentist. So, in short YES you can take it. HTH's!

Thank you so much mamas for all of your replies! This tooth was a decayed wisdom tooth with a really bad cavity....I say "was" because I got the sucker pulled yesterday The night of my post though, I ended up going to the ER ; they gave me Loritab which they said is part Vicoden/part Tylenol. It worked until I got to the dentist the next day. I'm telling you though - I would choose childbirth any day of the week over that pain. As I was driving to the hospital, I could not help making labor sounds over this tooth!!
Note to self: Do not put off going to the dentist. SO not worth it.
