Diapers for skinny-legged baby?

Okay, so I was totally planning to do the prefolds as soon as this baby was born. Well, we had a good laugh when we got her home from the hospital and the infant prefolds I bought were bigger than she was. Six weeks, stacks of horribly expensive disposable diapers, and almost three pounds later, she's just about big enough for the prefolds and a couple of the AIOs/pocket diapers we bought.

Problem- she's got skinny little legs. Her thighs are only slightly bigger around than her knees, which means that we can't get the prefolds tight enough around her legs to prevent ebf bowel movements from going everywhere. The covers we bought don't fit snugly around her legs either.

Is there hope? I know somebody who made me an AIO that I love and I'm thinking of just having her make me some more (and paying for them, of course). Can I make prefolds work, or am I just going to have to wait until she gets bigger? I have tried several different folds, and her bm's will leak out of every single one.

What covers have you tried? Dd has skinny legs as well. We used the pfs with the Thirsties covers. For blowouts, it would sometimes get on the actual cover but never outside of the cover, so we would just change covers for those times. I would definitely recommend trying the Thirsties.

I have Proraps, Bummis with snaps and Bummis with velcro. The Bummis with velcro work best right now.

Back when DS had skinny little legs.... we used Bummi SWW (the ones with velcro... the ones with snaps fit weird on DS) and prefolds. Sometimes he blew out on the cover. We used an angelwing fold, and sometimes a jellyroll fold and fastened with a snappi. (The jellyroll I find hard, and we gave it up.)

Also, when fastening your prefolds, make sure that they are folded down enough, (short enough in the rise) and that you pull up the front flap as well as the sides.

hth!

I say just design your own pattern based on your child. If you have left over materials then use them for the next size. Making your own diapers makes the most sence if you can sew.

We found the angelwing fold seemed to work the best, and the BSWW with the velcro. Last time she didn't blow out on the cover, so here's hoping! She did twice earlier today.
