covering up the belly

Due to where I live, I end up in a swimsuit frequently. I have been to the beach a lot this summer in my bikini. I did get a comment from a woman at the pool yesterday(we are on vacation right now) and I am wondering, how many of you cover up the belly at the beach or pool? I almost bought a pregnancy tank but am too cheap. I don't want to spend 30-40 dollars on something I will wear for only 10 more weeks. It also bothers my mom but I can easily ignore her on this. She keeps telling me to cover up.

Psh. Wear whatever makes YOU comfortable. None of the people that tell you to "cover up" have to carry a big freakin baby around for the whole (VERY HOT) summer! I have a maternity swimsuit for the butt coverage but it shows about 3 or 4 inches of belly. I also occasionally wear a bikini top and shorts for floating and I just DON'T CARE what the other river people have to say

Rock on with your hot pregnant bod.

Yeah, I just wear my old bikini. Occasionally people stare, but you know what? My pregnant belly is still smaller than some of those big old men with beer guts in speedos!

I vote wearing whatever makes you feel comfortable. I mean, come on, it's just a body...

yes, the comment maker was a larger woman..... i wanted to say something rude back but i just looked at her like she was crazy and walked away. I was telling my husband that at least its a baby and not a huge gut. He doesn't care what I wear anyway.

If you're comfortable then forget her! I wear one piece swimsuits.. but I have always wore one piece.. I used to be on the swim team and got really used to that type of suit and am just not comfortable in anything else.

I just wore my regular swimsuit (one piece) to the water park a few weeks ago. If you're comfortable in a bikini normally, I don't see a reason to change. (Extra sunblock on the tummy, of course!)

I wear a bikini because I normally wear one and I couldn't find a maternity suit I liked. If no one else likes it I don't really care.

I bought my first maternity tankini with this pg. I felt that I would be more comfortable at the pool with all the other moms. With my last I wore my bikinis all the way through. I've never gotten any comments. WTH do they care! It just goes along with other things in pg - like you're community property or something. Personally I'm a bikini girl all the way, but I guess I'm not as confident with my pg body this time around. Weird - maybe because I'm older now?

Gosh...I'm kinda shocked by that. It's not like you're walking around with your t!ts out. Why would anyone be offended by a beautiful baby in the belly? I really don't get it.

Actually...this really puzzles and disturbes me. If you are comfortabel in a bikini...and I bet you look gorgous and round!...wear it! If someone says this to you again just tell them "bodies are beautiful" or something like that. The nerve.

I love to show off a pregnant belly. If people dont appriciate a woman growing a baby then they are surely very sad people and need it in their face!

For Pete's sake I see really REALLy large woman in bathing suits I woudn't dare wear...does anyone tell them something. I am sure NOT! Don't worry about her.

IF you don't want to buy a bathing suit...but want something just wear a large t-shirt. I wear a big shirt to keep from getting sunburned!

I don't cover my belly! We even went to the new water park (Aquatica) at Orlando and I wore a 2 piece bikini set, LOVED it! although I felt like a clown since everyone was looking at my belly and I even heard some 'oh wow!' (because of my hugeness lol) and ask me if I care.. I even got a free meal haha! Wear what you want and what is comfortable! I wear 2 piece because I hate feeling the yucky sticky bathing fabric on my skin.

I wish I had the body to show off my pregnant belly, but I wouldn't have worn a bikini even pre pregnancy. I have way too much non-babybelly blubber to feel comfortable wearing a cute little suit like that. ;-) I envy my friend and the other expectant Mama I see at the pool who wear their bikinis with the bottom under their bellies. Honestly, what do they think you should be hiding? The fact that you are growing a new little human? What's so shameful about that?

I see much, MUCH worse things hanging out of bikinis than round pregnant bellies all the time, but I don't go up to obese people and tell them they need to cover up their mounds of fat rolls. Why does she care so much? Is she jealous that she doesn't look as good in a swimsuit as you?

Whatever, dude. If you get any more flack just tell the person to go buy you a maternity bikini and you'll gladly wear it for them (I agree, they are kind of expensive).

pregnancy is the ONLY time I feel comfortable wearing a bathing suit of any kind....

...NO rules apply to how your *should* look when you are 8 months pregnant...I find it extremely liberating!

rock on!

There's no way I'd buy a bathing suit if I didn't need to. My old 2-piece with skirt bottom fits so I wear it.

I cover my belly when I'm out of the water (towel, usually), but only because I don't want to chance burning my stretch marks.

I love how people act like there's something vulgar or private about a baby belly. Why should it be treated any different than any other belly? I just don't get it.

OMG, I would have said something back to her...what the heck is wrong with a pregnant belly? It's just like any other belly in a 2 piece but it's got a baby in it making it poke out more than normal. Better than a beer gut hanging over a 4 sizes too small speedo, I agree.

Ugh, some people.... :

yeah I don't get it either. It's not warm here, but if I was in a warm place I'd definately wear a bikini and show off the belly! Seriously, girls are walking around in string thong bikini and men are walking around with beer guts and speedos, and she talks to you about the beautiful healthy belly you have? Pooh on her. :P

it's very weird, but my mother considers it "Obcene" to show the belly.

i think this is because it is an obvious indication that i've had sex. LOL

i think it's a generational thing.

now, i tend to keep my belly covered in general (even when nto pregnant), but i've found that i like showing my belly in my bathing suit. and, it's comfortable.

i haven't gotten any comments except from my mom. i told her i was going to buy a new bathing suit because my current top is too small (breasts have grown. i jokingly say that tassles would provide more coverage). she asked if i was getting a maternity tank suit, and i told her that i wasn't because i wouldn't be able to use it after this season anyway. she then said "you're not getting a bikini!" and i said "yes" and then it was *dead silence* on the line. LOL

i don't see it as problematic at all. but yeah, everyone knows i totally had sex with that cute guy i live with.
